This sounds a lot like synthetic folic acid buildup as well. Many of us can't break down the synthetic form properly, so it builds up our systems detrimentally.

I have B6 toxicity. Through my research I learned “When the liver's metabolic processes are compromised, it can lead to a buildup of certain compounds, including vitamin B6, in the bloodstream. This can result in elevated levels of vitamin B6, leading to potential symptoms of vitamin B6 toxicity.” I have a fatty liver so this made total sense to me. I'm now trying to sort out how to address the problem.

Great information. It's so complicated in all aspects. A clinician could have a full time job just dealing with Vitamin B6 and its intricacies.

Pyridoxine HCL vs Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate (P5P)

According to the studies I seen, Pyridoxine HCL an issue when:
1) one takes >200mg/day - some set the limit @ >1000mg/day
2) over months if not years
3) I've read a peer reviewed paper1, which explained why Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate (P5P) doesn’t cause harmful side effects/B6-toxicity like Pyridoxine HCL does. I've also watched medical videos, some of which were talks at medical institutes or schools, which said the same. Interestingly, all commecially available preparations for neuropathy pain which include B6, ONLY do so in the Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate (P5P) form. None do so as Pyridoxine HCL.
4) The value of Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate (P5P) has been shown by dozens of studies, that those who already have neuropathy experience reduced neuropathic discomfort with therapeutic dosages of Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate (P5P).

Vrolijk MF, Opperhuizen A, Jansen EHJM, Hageman GJ, Bast A, Haenen GRMM. (2017) The vitamin B6 paradox: Supplementation with high concentrations of pyridoxine leads to decreased vitamin B6 function. Toxicol In Vitro. 2017 Oct;44:206-212. doi: 10.1016/j.tiv.2017.07.009. Epub 2017 Jul 14. PMID: 28716455.
„In conclusion, the present study strongly indicates that the neuropathy observed after taking a relatively high dose of vitamin B6 supplements is due to the vitamer that is used in the supplements, namely pyridoxine. The inactive form pyridoxine competitively inhibits the active pyridoxal-phosphate. As a consequence, the paradox arises that the symptoms of vitamin B6 supplementation are similar to those of vitamin B6 deficiency. Vitamin B6 supplements are used by a large number of people. The safety of vitamin B6 is debated and recently EFSA has lowered the upper limit for vitamin B6. The question is whether lowering the safe dose for vitamin B6 is the solution. Remarkably, even at relatively low dose, vitamin B6 supplementation has given rise to complaints. Our study indicates that the toxicity of vitamin B6 is not only determined by the dose, but by the vitamer in which it is taken. Perhaps it might be better to replace pyridoxine by pyridoxal or pyridoxal-phosphate as vitamin B6 supplements, which are much less toxic. In this way, the vitamin B6 paradox may potentially be prevented.“

Thank you so much Dr. Paul. This is the situation with my husband right now that is driving me crazy. We were taking supplement Nutritional Yeast and I was blending it because of the toxicity but now that you mentioned about the underlying inflammation it makes a lot of sense. We stopped taking the supplement. His Doctor sent the lab order to do the test again. Thanks again.

Hi ! I have had a slew of symptoms from arrhythmias, trouble breathing, to a tingling “numbness/asleep “ sensation on the entire left side of my body. Dizziness, headaches on left side of my brain that feel like burning . My knees down feel icy hot pins and needles … after being cleared of a stroke as well as having an mri of my brain, neurology did a blood workout and the only abnormal on it was B6 levels 4x the limit . Reference range of 2.1-21.7ng/ml and mine is 80.8 . I do not take any supplements other than c and d (which I am stopping now also) and have for years consumed a protein shake and other things similar that perhaps have b6. I was told to not have any protein shakes or bars or anything processed until they retest my blood in 30 days . WITH that said, I still feel with recently been diagnosed with neurocardiogenic syncope where when my blood pressure drops so does my heart rate, ) that this is only a piece of a larger puzzle. The doctor said if my levels go back to normal then that was likely the cause of the peripheral neuropathy. Your video explained it so well, and how I’m feeling. Yes if that makes my symptoms go away great, but why is my body not processing B6 correctly is my thought process. Do you have any other suggestions as to what tests I should ask her to run to find out?? Or what I should be looking for ? My ANA came back normal, C reactive protein normal. My gut just says these are piece of a puzzle but NOT the bigger problem .

Dr Anderson, why do you not talk at all about b6 toxicity likely happens is because of a hydrating event?
This happen to be end of Feb. I am now 3 mths out following a hydration protocol and keep my b6 at 33% RDA per meal with the other 10 % going to the coconut water.
You can also be dehydrated and be drinking lots of water! Without the proper amounts of sodium, potassium, and chloride needed you can be dehydrated.

What about P5P. That doesn’t cause toxicity correct?

I know 2 people with MTHFR mutation and double dose of B6 in the blood. Does it mean that it can’t be turned into active form and the body is in deficit? Do they have to supplement with the activated form? How to get rid of this blood excess? They don’t supplement.

What causes B6 toxicity without taking supplements and vitamins? And what is the inflammatory specifics? Please elaborate on the what causes inflammatory in relation to B6 toxicity?
