Absolutely spot on. I have taught golf for more than 30 years and setting the wrists early in the backswing is great for keeping width in the swing. It also gives the golfer more chance to to hit from inside to out.

I’m retired military with some shoulder, wrist, and elbow injuries. After watching this video I walked over and picked up my 7 iron and tried the early hinge. I definitely have more range and can’t wait to get to the range and try it!

Thank you very much Kerrod for this great instructional video. I have always struggled with trying to compress the ball and hit a divot after the ball. This early hinge technique to keeping the lead arm straight really helped. After watching the video I immediately went to the range and tried it. I got amazing results! I was hitting longer and straighter with all of my clubs. Many thanks!

Wow… I’m an old dog who is very skeptical of anything I perceive to be a new trick. Thus, I don’t tend to try too many new swing thoughts. But I’ve known for awhile that I needed to figure out a way to mentally & physically maintain a straight left arm in my backswing so that I’m able to maintain it in the downswing and stay on the correct swing plane as best as possible. Your “early right wrist hinge” idea was spot on for my swing. In a very short period of time on the driving range, it was like a light bulb going off. Much appreciated sir!

First time I was able to get a back swing with a straight lead arm thanks to this tip! Amazing! I thought my shoulder flexibility was an issue or something. Turns out I wasn't bending my wrists enough!

This was a great video. I’ve been trying to keep my left arm straight and I know I’m not hinging my wrists well so this gave me something to work on.

Very similar to the drill Nick Faldo used in the rebuilding of his swing prior to winning The Masters. He “set the wrists” fully at address by moving the club 90 degrees to a position where the club shaft was straight and parallel to the ground. To complete the takeaway/backswing, he simply rotated his body.

Oh my goodness, so many people are pushing the Hack motion, I understand that it's a useful tool, but I also think it is only a useful tool if the right person is using it.
Even without HM I like the thought of the right palm pushing the left thumb away as the back swing goes from first parallel to the top of an unforced shoulder turn, it gives a real mental image of decent width in the back swing. 👌🏼

Legend!!🙏This is an awesome tip. Explained very well.

Extension in BS means the lead wrist goes into extension(pressure on left thumb downward)
Decreasing the angle of club and forearm. Most golfers "cock" the lead wrist(flexion) that decreases the angle between the golf club and the lead forearm.
Extension allows more angular momentum in DS.

You gotta focus on turning your ribcage. And you also gotta drive your elbow down towards your body. So elbow pointing downwards in your backswing and then drive that elbow downwards toward your body to draw power.

I do mine a bit different I keep my arm straight on the the back swing on my downswing i drop my right arm just above my knee or right pocket keep in my right arm straight on the down swing once my right arm is straight on the down swing that’s when I start turning and releasing the club it seems complicated explaining my swing thought but it’s very simple it’s the true 2 plane swing and It creates coming from the inside N grip and every shot is a block draw can’t hook it also I open the club face for 2 degrees and the shot is a draw fade than so it starts as a draw when the ball starts loosing spin it start fading at the end I had 20 y of coaching and not 1 coach could teach me the 2 plane swing I worked it out myself and yes maybe it’s the old school 2 plane swing but who cares it works beter than any other golf swing that coaches tried to teach me everyone has there theory it’s what works for you
