For reference in rats, rats can chew through some tough stuff like wood and even some stone, I have no doubt they can burrow through a human if given time

The ingenuity of human sadism is limitless.

Thinking the Blood eagle was not "completed" while the victim was alive, but rather the grisly end result was to serve as a warning of sorts.. Like being drawn and quartered and parts being displayed to the same effect.

Many people can survive what should be life threatening. Like a teenage girl who was stabbed a few dozen times and half decapitated, put her guts back in her stomach and tied her shirt to keep them in. She then had to hold her head on while looking for help. She survived and made a full recovery. Many amazing cases of people surviving something they probably shouldn’t Have.

Love the way you give us hope that a victim will survive, and then suddenly you take it away. Leaving us with mixed feelings.😂

The ways that humans invent to hurt each other is just... something. You missed out "breaking on the wheel" from the list tho.

Why did this trigger a hyper focus for me at 2:30am on a Wednesday ??? 😭😭😭😭😭

Scaphism is one of the most horrifying to me. I know that there are historical records which imply that it would be a multi-day affair, with the boat pulled in at night and sent out again the next morning onto the same stagnant pool of water - following another forced feeding and smothering with milk and honey of course. This would continue until the victim died. I imagine that the accounts are exaggerated due to bias (again from memory the sources which speak about it are mostly Greek, where the torture itself was said to have been used by the Persians. The ancient Greeks didn’t particularly like the Persians in general and rarely had anything nice to say about them. That isn’t even considering if the accounts are based on rumours rather than written down by eye witnesses to the event. There is no proof that it was actually used.) Regardless, I remember reading an account of someone subjected to scaphism surviving for a total of 15 days. Most sources seem to cluster in the range of 1-5 days from memory however. It is horrifying regardless. What is more horrifying is that I have yet to find information which definitively concludes that surviving 15 days under those circumstances is completely impossible. Given enough test subjects, I don’t find it to be an incredible suggestion that someone could find a way to extend the length of the torture by keeping the victim alive for that long. After all… Vlad the Impaler was said to have found a way to impale a person in such a way that it avoided major blood vessels and kept the organs in good enough condition for a victim to stay alive for several days while sliding down a massive wooden stake gradually. Galen also comes to mind, the man performed vivisections on pigs and figured out through experimentation which nerve to pluck to make the pig stop screaming. He was also thrown the occasional Roman prisoner to experiment on in order to further his understanding of human anatomy. Humans have always been gruesomely creative in experimenting with torture and anatomy in general. In fact, a large part of our medical knowledge today (used to save lives) was discovered because of experimenting with torture in years gone by. Scary when you think about it.

I remember Viking re-enactors coming to my primary school and while I was in class three burst in making the stack of paper by the door go flying in the air, I remember them stopping for a second at the door (I can only imagine they were thinking of the mess then realising actually that’s a cool entrance) anyway after the surprise of vikings showing up they got one of the boys put him on a table and talked us through the bloody eagle 😂 fun times.

These punishments seemed unnecessarily cruel until I remembered the man that hired a surrogate to supply him with a baby to abuse.

Thank you, Dr. Raynor, I am now smarter AND horrified in equal quantities.

I had a roommate who fostered rats and I 100% believe one could burrow into you if it wanted to.

Just to share some of the comedy here. As you ended your segment on the blood eagle, and were about to transition to the next torture, you made the statement that the victims of the next torture method would be awake during. This coincided perfectly with a YouTube ad for Taco Bell. I couldn't help but chuckle there.

"What do Fast & Furious 2 and Game of Thrones have in common?" They suck.

All gruesome and i guess the drawn out insect death or skinning are among the worst due to the amount of time. I always thought the medieval opening you up, releasing your intestines and cooking them on a fire while still attached to you particularly gruesome since it brought the sense of smell into play.

Watching cooperate PowerPoint presentations for day long workshops or indeed watching ANY presentation on PowerPoint should be on this torture list. 😂

as terrible as the blood eagle would be, at least it would be faster than some of the other ways to go on this video

I´ve watched F&F2 a lot of times by now, and that scene still gives me a physical squirmish reaction every time.
