We test drove the Lexus NX, Lexus RX, Genesis GV70, and BMW X3 yesterday and the Lexus NX won hands down in handling and elegance not to mention #1 rank on JD Power dependability list. BMW X3 was last on our list.

The value proposition is the NX350h hybrid. The performance choice is the NX450h+ plug-in hybrid. Both are very fuel efficient and can use regular gas. The hybrids save on brake pad wear using regenerative braking with 50% longer pad life. This model has been super popular in the model lineup and is the 2nd favorite in the SUV models only surpassed by the RX series.
I have the NX450h+ and it is the best car I have ever purchased. It is my 4th hybrid. My avg MPG is 39. I get the impression that you expect owners to race their SUV's on the weekends or something.... I never use my paddle shifters. Sometimes I don't realize my speed and I see I'm doing 90 going down the Interstate...The spindle grill has now evolved into the spindle body...

If it's true there's much more competition in this compact crossover line, it's also true that this Toyota/Lexus will keep much more value than any german equivalent. The reason is in the name: it's a Toyota. Built to last. No problems. Cheaper maintenace. Reliable several magnitudes more than any other brand. And a contructor behind thay cares about clients, from the launch of any new model to the assistance for every problem may arise. I just got into Toyota world after a lifetime in Audi and VW. I'll never go back.
At the moment all the notes I've seen on troubles on this car and its sister RAV4 are negligible when compared to the real big issues on german equivalents.
Not to mention that germans selling at lower prices than japanese, means one thing only: they're built cheaper.
Talk to a Porsche Cayenne Hybrid owner and ask him about the VW group hybrid system reliability.

German is always more fun, quiter, smoother, etc. BUT out of factory warranty watch out!!
