I noticed years ago that sugary foods like pie, cobbler, and ice cream increase the volume of my tinnitus, usually within just a few minutes of eating them.

57 year old male and US Army Veteran that has been looking for a solution to my tinnitus for the last several years. I cycle about 80-100 miles a week so I'm in decent shape. I'm certain that I have insulin resistance though as I eat sugar just about every day. I also gave up alcohol about 8 months ago. Ears still ring. I have not had any sugar for the last 4 days and my tinnitus has gone down, considerably. Thanks for this info, I'm optimistic that sugar is the culprit.

Thank you Dr. Ben :) ...It is very true about the relationship between sugar and tinnitus. My tinnitus started in 2021 and a few months later, I discovered that I had diabetes. Although my tinnitus has not gone away, I definitely notice that it ramps up after eating too many carbs.

I was on medication for tinnitus, it reduced my tinnitus and about to cure also I left sweet and coffee, tea etc but one day I took some sweet with coffee and that was my biggest mistake it worsen the tinnitus. I regret that.

So I assume when you give amount of sugar per day you're talking about added sugar. Because, you can get too much sugar that's natural in foods (such as juice and dried fruit).

I recenty had an increase in my tinnitus due to a new noise trauma. I dont regurlary consume a lot of sugar, but today I drank a lot of sodas and had deserts and chocolate bars. Could this have increase my tinnitus permanently or inhibit the recovery process?

I have tinnitus and ate a huge chocolate eclair this afternoon and my ears are ringing out of my gourd! I won't be doing that again. I wonder if a boiled egg or a handful of nuts would help.

I have mild sensorineural hearing loss and now have tinnitus for the last 2 months. I get spikes at weird random times which seems odd to me. Sometimes my breakfast may spike it and sometimes it doesn’t even when it’s the exact same meal. My tinnitus is mostly in my left ear, but I also get ringing in my right. In fact the right ringing also spikes in sound so it’s all odd to me.

Could a hamburger bun and fries cause spikes? The other night I had a small spoonful of my son’s blizzard that had chocolate in it and I got a spike about 15 mins later. It seems anything can cause my spikes. Would carbs and sugars still make my tinnitus worse when I am told my tinnitus is from my mild hearing loss issue?

This stuff is driving me crazy.
