I believe the reason why the cure for tinnitus has not happened is that when i developed tinnitus in 1982, the general belief for most physicians was that there was nothing that could be done to cure tinnitus. As people age (like my age group), people generally develop some hearing loss. If general physicians follow the practice of referring all patients over 60 or refer patients earlier if there’s a genetic component for a baseline hearing test to audiology, tinnitus can be addressed by a physician and the discussion of tinnitus can be properly detected and treated with hearing aids, if applicable. The patient can then decide to treat their hearing loss and tinnitus simultaneously. A win in both cases and would have allowed me to treat my then mild hearing loss and tinnitus 7 years ago.

The primary reason there has not been a cure for tinnitus yet is because when I developed tinnitus in 1982, patients were told that nothing could be done and there was no cure. This does not give any incentive to apply to research studies. As the population ages, people generally develop some hearing loss. If the practice of performing a baseline hearing test by age 60 or earlier if there is a genetic component, more patients may be referred to audiology where the condition can properly be addressed. The patient can then decide to treat both conditions and potentially get some relief from their tinnitus.

I have a serious ticking like electricity popping. Then it goes to a constant loud buzz for exactly 10 seconds, then turns off. What the heck is that all about? Gabapentin calms it down enough so I can sleep. The loud buzz is so bad, I lose my balance for those 10 seconds. This will go on for a month, then disappear for a month or so, then comes back. Moving my neck will bring it on or turn it off. I know it’s the nerve.

I dont understand things about hearing aid. I am 35 with tinnitus and mild hearing loss. Normally i struggle hearing in office wirh low voice and in group talk. It seems that hearing aid increasea problema in life more. Like handling them, charging them, adding removing them, uncomfortness, explaining other person once they see device, and even with hearing aid u don't clearly understand in group and lot of other un necessary sounds come in. I dont think that is good solution for hearing loss. I am looking for cure since 10 years and will wait or may die dur to stress and loneliness.
