Still pretty new to Linux I see. I remember having Kali Linux on a USB and a VM for the longest time until I realized I could just download nmap, metasploit, hashcat, and wireshark on any Linux system.

For an on-the-go maintenance/testing tool, I recommend burning just any lightweight distro with persistence to a USB and downloading the frequently used tools (add gparted to the list). If you're serious about pentesting, a Kali VM makes more sense, just to try out whatever hacking tools are out there to test your network/devices against.

I should also add that VMs are useful in general for testing security and all around tinkering; if you're gonna break something, break something that isn't important.

I just started using Linux just like a week ago. It was really hard for me to use Fedora in the early. I always get errors even i have followed the documentation installation like install Apache for LAMPP. But after three days, i reinstalled my Fedora Os and fixed all of the errors easily. I gained alot of new experiences and knowleges that's really useful especially for my computer school lessons. I can even code in Android Studio and open my google chrome without gaining any lag. Fedora has a really beautiful UI for me and i can even modify it to looks similar to MacOs if i wanted. But sadly, there were many apps that i always use in windows but i can't use in Linux officially like Adobe XD and Office.

Instead of using etcher for making bootable iso drives, I now just use the dd command.. works in Linux and OSX

1: use “lbslk” to find the name of flash drive (I’ll use “sdb” as an example)

2: sudo dd if=/path/to/iso of=/dev/sdb bs=4M status=progress & sync

You’ve just created a bootable flash drive using native tools. 😎
