How Did IG-88 Almost DESTROY the Star Wars Galaxy? Star Wars Legends

Ig-88A was created around 15 years before the destuction of the first death Star. His programing allowed him to become self aware and he escaped along with 3 other ig-88 units, planning to exterminate all organic life in a droid revolution. Taking over the droid manufacturing world of mechis 3, the Ig-88s would upload a code into all the droids manufactured there, that when activated, would cause a droid revolution. IG-88B would work as a bounty hunter, discretely collecting vital information for the revolution. After Boba Fett destroyed 3 of the IG-88 units, the remaining ig-88 would upload his concioisness into the second death star, using his control to hit Palpatine in the face with a door. However before he could use the second death star to Broadcast a code to start his revolution, lando calrision would blow up the hypermatter reactor, killing ig-88 and his Plans with him

IG-88's story in "Tales of the Bounty Hunters" was the most fun read of my life. It was quite funny to read despite its dark moments. I especially love the part where a Moff obsessed with getting a cosmetic operation asks Vader if he will get enough benefits to get the operation, to which the Sith responds by threatening to remove his helmet so he can see what a hideous face it is.

If we ever get a Star Wars What If show, I hope that they have a episode where they explore if IG-88’s plans succeed it could be really interesting to see what a droid infested galaxy would look like. Also it would be funny seeing Palpatine being hit by a door.

For anyone interested this is taken from Tales of the Bounty Hunters story “Therefore I Am: the tale of IG88” in 1996. The whole Tales series is great, but the Bounty Hunter one sheds some much needed light on these characters. Also the Rancor Keepers story in Tales from Jabbas Palace is a masterpiece

Reminds me of HK 50s plan to conquer the galaxy and beyond with a droid uprising in KOTOR 2. Major props to Lando, not only did help stop Sidious, he stopped total annihilation by droids too
