It is quite the savage twist on the knife to introduce the self-destruct function as a constant form of comedy on the first episode and then turn it into such a dramatic moment by the end. I'm still loving this moment and it's honestly for me, the best one on the first season.

This is why i love the droids in star wars. They have personality and are willing to do anything for the people they want to protect, regardless of programming.

Can you imagine what IG was feeling while he was walking through? He couldn’t feel the pain but he knew he was melting rapidly and still stuck to his directive… a sad salute to him T_T7

This scene alone is one of the great moments in the mandalorian, it shows that ig-11 as to quote quill "had developed a personality" as hinted when he stroked grogus ear, no programing made him do that, that was no darective, it was his choice, his decision, his last action before wlaking in LAVA in order to prevent grogu and gang from being killed, even though he couldn't fell his legs melting he know what was happening, he was aware of what was going on, that either way the moment he stepped out of the lava boat he was dead, that wasn't just a "darective" that was a choice, a sacrafice, and it wasn't motivated by anterior motives, it was genuine love and compassion that drove that decision, that guided him down the trail of fire that he willingly set out upon without hesitation
