If anyone is having trouble pumping gas in this model car, you definitely want to check the filter tube vent. This is located driver's side rear wheel well. You will have to remove the wheel to get access to the plastic shroud in the wheel well. The filter tube vent is located behind there. You'd be surprised how much road debris actually gets trapped up in there despite it being covered. When I cleaned mine, I removed a dustpan sized pile of dirt and sand. In my case, cleaning that filler vent did the trick allowing me to pump gas, and not have to do the "flip the gas nozzle upsidedown" trick in order to pump gas. 3 years since and still pumping gas fine. Just a quick tip no one really talks about. 😉

Very helpful video. I am a tool & die maker in the automotive sector. When I asked this error code to be explained, I was told things that made no sense. The more clarification I asked, the more I realized I was being sent down a rabbit hole of being ripped off at a Ford dealership. Can't stand these repair sales folk who think they can sell a story to anyone and everyone will believe them. Thank you for the enlightenment.

Cussing while working on an evap system is required for a good repair!

You are seriously the hero of the day. This just saved my butt completely. After checking the wiring and replacing the solenoid With no luck of getting rid of the code, i watched your video. Unhooked everything and dropped the Evap canister blew air into it to see if it was clogged. Seemed fine. Traced the hoses back only to find dirt packed completely in the outside vent. Looked like the vent cover may have been reinstalled upside down by someone so it was able to fill up like a cup. Anyways thank you so much ! Blessings

Your approach is so effective that for every problem, like no one else, you make a schematic to explain it’s principle of working. 👍🏻

Love this guy's videos, great quality and legitimate explanations and breakdowns. I've talked to other "professional" mechanics that can't give a clear breakdown on issues. You have helped me turn into a pretty competent DIY mechanic for myself, family and friends

I've watched 15 or 20 videos concerning EVAP System problems (PO447) yours is the only one that helped. Great illustration, great description, and good videotaping. Thank you!

I know this is old, but thank you. Been looking at this, everyone talks about replacing the various parts, but no one shows a simple schematic of how the system works. Best info I've found in several hours of searching.

Tanks also have pressure sensors that the PCM uses to determine how much vaccum pressure the tank needs, in order to know what signals to send to the purge valve and the vent solenoid. The gas caps is also vented to let in fresh air to the tank upon vaccum pull from the PCM. Caps determine open or closed based on vaccum and gas pressures and vary based on tank pressures.

This is the best explanation of the EVAP system I've seen.

This video was very helpful. I been having problems with my Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 09' I thought it was my spark plugs and cord's and spark wires. So I changed them and the problem got bad. So I drop my gas tank and changed the fuel pump and still was acting bad. So I read up on it and now I probably know it's a bad purge valve. But I'm glad I changed everything myself and I'm learning as I go along in life.

That voltage on the Ground side is called Bias Voltage. It is a common technique in circuit design to detect if there is a problem with a sensor circuit.

That happened to my aunt's '05 Sedona. She took it to a mechanic down the road and he said it needed a new cam, lifters and a head job. I put my code reader on it and she told him to hold off and replace the solenoid. he did and it's still running great. Thanks for making this video...!!!

I have watched several videos to get my head wrapped around the evap system because I have to know how the step I am doing is affecting the entire system or pause the video after step execute it, and then listen to desired outcome. If they don't match, I still can't diagnose because I am not familiar with the terms. Your explanation of the entire system fixes all that. Thank u sir.
