At the time you posted this, I was suffering from a strange flu, later diagnosed via CSF as bacterial meningitis. Eight months later. I woke up in the hospital after spending seven days in ICU in an "altered state of

I had been complaining about ear pain, a chronically runny nose, loss of hearing and dizziness months before the first episode of meningitis. My PCP found ear wax and suggested peroxide for the ear and Benadryl for the "allergies." Neither offered relief.

While hospitalized, a CT and MRI revealed "diffuse reticular opacities consistent with acute mastoiditis" and an empty sella leaking CSF through my nose. Both mastoiditis and CSF leaks can cause meningitis. Now I'm waiting for surgery.
