I saw them at a bar in Va. Beach, Va . In 1977 right before they made it big . That night there was a bad thunderstorm and it knocked the power out . But that didn’t hinder the band, they played some acoustical stuff and did some funny comedy stuff, they were very cool and when the power came back on 2 hours later they not only did their show but played an extra couple of hours . Till this day, one of the best shows I’ve ever seen . RIP Eddie ✌️

When Van Halen came out in the 1970s the rest of us guitar players...after recovering from the shock...had to go and learn how to play again.

Eddie was and will always be a GOAT. The drummer is his brother Alex btw. Talented family!

Most solos are boring after a short while. But this solo is different. They are a little mini of solo songs all put together. It is a work of art. THE guitar solo of guitar solos. Eddie was and will remain one of THE most influential guitarists of all time. Well done, young lady, for going with it. He is so unique and can be quite overwhelming to fresh ears.

Their first album was released the same year I graduated from high school.
The original “Eruption” is on that album. We had never heard anything like it!
This performance to me is the best of all time as far as guitar solos go.

I teared up a little. I would love to experience Eddie’s playing for the first time again.

I literally had to give him a round of applause while watching this video alone🥺 ... I'm beginning to get the hang of ancient music 🥂

Smoking is bad for you.

But Eddie Van Halen's guitar solos bring me life.

You seemed like you appreciated the drums. That’s Ed’s brother Al. Check out his drum solo from the same concert. It’s really good.

That was the first time I decided to watch Van Halen guitar solo because of you. It was almost classical.

Countless hours of practice/playing… as a guitarist myself it’s still hard to believe how amazing Eddie was. His “tap on” technique was just over the top, and he was the pioneer in this. Right up there among the all time greats!

I saw Van Halen live Brisbane Australia 🇦🇺 about 25 years ago, I was third row the stage wasn't very high, he did a solo every note was perfect. I remember reading a story that his brother Alex the drummer said on Friday night he would go out at about 6pm Eddie was practising, when Alex got back at about 2am Eddie was still there playing.

When i first heard the recorded solo from Van Halen 1 i was 13. I thought the sounds came from of outer space! Even in the "Cathedral' section you can hear some (Gypsy Jazz) swing. His father was a Jazz musician (clarinet, saxophone).

He blew all the other guitarists away when he came on the scene!

He was an absolute MASTER of the instrument. Every once in a while you come across one.
