I recently bought 2 new Bosch fuel pumps for a 126 V8 SEL from a very reputable supplier here in the UK...lasted 2 days or 30 miles. QR code scan didn't work either. Now running genuine OE used ones from my stock of used parts. Just done a Germany round trip with not one problem...be very careful boys and girls. Much love to the channel

Recently replaced the original distributor cap in my '84 500SEL with a Bosch OEM cap. I was impressed with the quality and how it seemed exactly like the original. Then, for some reason, I could not get it to fit properly on the distributor. After some head scratching, I figured out that the new cap, which is made from two pieces of plastic pressed together, one black and one brown, was made backwards, or exactly 180 degrees offset. No biggy, I put it on backwards and it works fine! But pity the fool who tries to attach the spark plug wires by the firing order makings on the new cap!

I'm watching this video 4 years after it was unloaded. I'm hoping this is still relevant 😅

I feel this video was made for me....as i am literally in process looking for CIS K injectors for my 500sel, and fuel filter, while my Fuel distributor is in service.

i was about to buy the injectors from online source and "save" a few bucks than the dealer but now im thinking maybe not

interesting comment about the sparkplugs..and frustrating too. thanks Pierre

Hearing about the inside scoop on Bosch and other well known manufacturers from someone who works with them day in and day out is very valuable when shopping for replacement parts. With so many parts makers I could almost see a series evolve where you speak about a section of the car like the steering/suspension, brakes, engine, trans etc and list off good makers and ones to stay away from. With Mercedes having such an involved community of enthusiasts, it’s good to know if a shop is going to bamboozle you with a poor quality part or when placing an order online as a DYIer.
Keep up the great work!

Hi Pierre, What about Bosch fuel accumulators or fuel pumps?

I think the best way to describe Bosch standards is that it just meets warranty needs.
Their marketing claims are amazing but really proves the performance is carefully short lived.

Ex: brake pads that are made of multiple layers to wear out exponentially faster.
👍

I had the russan bosch plugs in my m117 and the engine just wasn't happy with them. I went to the dealer (seems to be the last source for non resistor plugs) and paid 50 bucks for the set of correct bosch plugs. Definitely made a difference. Now for plug wires I use bremi wires but bosch plugs and bosch cap and rotor

I’ve heard they make some Mercedes and Bosch parts in China and they weren’t up to snuff. Then I’ve also heard they make them to the standards of Mercedes. I’m super confused. I will just ask you to be safe. I’ve used cheaper parts with no problems. I’d have to look up what brake pads are on my SL since 2013 or so. The rotors I used were Zimmerman coated rotors. I regularly check my wheels for excess heat when I park after a long drive. I know one of my rear calipers (on the SL) have a split dust boot. I’m not losing brake fluid though.
I plan to go with Nugeon rebuilt calipers because I’ve watched their YouTube video of them rebuilding them in America with their very nice tumbling machines that clean them up probably better than I can! I can always go back to Mercedes if I’m not happy. I can share the link.

Also some ding bat replaced one side only of the rear caliper on the SEL. (Big NO-NO) My husband was driving and had to stop hard- yes the car slid a bit to one side- NOT cool- plan to change them too!

"if it is not made in Germany it is probably junk". No, it is junk regardless manufacturing location. All my parts from Bosch are made in Germany since I live next to that country and I replacing them all the time. I used to believe that thesr parts are just reached the end of their lives, e.g. ignition coil for 50k km. But hey, I was so stupid and I didn't realize that until I put on NGK ignition coils. And O2 sensors, and valves, and even the high pressure fuel pump was leaking gasoline internally into the engine ABS sensors, it's just a hall effective sensor and that can be broken....It feels like Bosch wanted them to fail. I avoid anything has Bosch logo on it. I would rather choose other reputable brands or cheap Chinese knock offs if no choice since I will certainly not going to pay that amount of money for Expensive Knock offs just for a logo that is stamped in Germany.

I purchased a set of Euro spec headlamps for my w124 from the MB dealer in Hamburg Germany a few years back. These were, of course, authentic Bosch with stamped body and lenses however they had decals from AL "Automotive Lighting" and were manufactured in Czech Republic. No quality control issues, and still work perfectly to this day.

I was told early on to use only Bosch Sparkplugs on my W126. I saw a YT Video of a guy using NGK Plugs. What's correct?
