Weaving is hard to do, but at least when you weave your spine is still in a strong position. It's slips you have to be very careful about. Slips put your cervical spine in a weak position making it alot easier for your opponent to knock you out. Weaving takes more time than a slip as you are usually moving in for a weave and moving out for a slip.
But if you learn to catch and dissipate a punch, you can save time, energy, and be ready to shoot a punch back that is fortified and strong.

I learned to just block the punches with my head. You can’t teach that. It’s all instinct fellas

Nate Diaz came to teach at my gym a few years back. He explained the pocket like a zone. Anything can happen in that sphere, so the best way to defend close strikes is to move laterally, on the least dominant side of the opponent. If they move so do you, but stay parallel. Such solid advice improved my game 100x.

Joe Lewis, one of the great karate fighters of all time. Had breakfast with him once. Very humble guy, very smart

Sad. He was a solid human being with a wealth of knowledge he gave freely. Shocked he passed " Early in July 2011, Lewis was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor and was told he would have six to eight weeks to live without surgery. The cancer had spread to his left shoulder and hip prior to his death. Passed August 2012." RIP my man.

I hadn't thought about Joe Lewis in years. He made an amazing impact in the 60s and 70s.

Mike Tyson was a genius at weaving, very hard to do consistently in a fight

Roberto Duran was one of the few boxers who could weave effectively up close.

I agree. Weaving works when you're trying to get inside on a taller opponent because it makes you harder to hit, but it's too slow to be a reactive defense

I feel like weaving is an instinct, you can only achieve it when you believe in yourself enough to trust your instincts. I've weaved punches that i couldn't see, or without looking. If you can read somebody and time the punches it is achievable.
