I have experienced this. One guy proposed to me when I was in class 9 and I rejected him... He did everything possible to make my blood boil.. finally when I was leaving my state for higher studies he tried to Gaslight me and emotional blackmail and creepy things and I had no choice but to tell my parents. Thankfully my parents understood and went to that boy's home, and told everything to his parents. They were reputed family, his father is a retired principal. But after graduation he didn't contact. But still if I come home late the few friends who knows about him tries to drop me at home just to make sure I'm safe. I don't think he'll do anything now but the few people that knows this still make sure I'm safe.. it's scary scary.
Also my parents are thankfully understanding but many parents are not like that and blames their daughter, so in many cases they opt to not tell them.
