Flying Where I'm Not Allowed // Paramotor in Class B Airspace

Flying a paramotor where I'm not allowed opens a lot of new possibilities. As paramotor pilots we have to know and honor the airspaces, and Las Vegas airspace is complicated. But it doesn't have to be. You can actually fly in class B airspace. Here's how I fly in #nellisairforcebase airspace.

This is super interesting - I’m a private pilot and fly in and out of class B airspace frequently. There’s a few things that surprised me about this - first, there is a “mode C veil” that extends 30 miles out from the center of any class B airport. This requires all aircraft to operate a “mode c transponder” which reports your exact altitude, direction and speed to ATC. This provides them with a layer of safety to deconflict aircraft. 2nd, I was surprised they allowed you to operate with just a cell phone and not a 2 way aircraft radio (I have a handheld that allows me to communicate on aircraft bands) to give real time position reports since you don’t have a transponder and are flying at a low enough altitude where it’s doubtful they could see you on radar. It’s super cool you were able to do this though!
