Flying an Airplane is NOT Always Safer Than Cars
#shorts #aviation #airplane #pilot

I always knew general aviation wasn't anywhere near as safe as commercial flying but I was unaware of just how much more dangerous it is than driving too! I learned this from an excellent video from @PilotInstituteAirplanes. I highly recommend you watch their video to get the full insight of the safety comparison between general aviation airplanes and cars.

Since some people are unsatisfied with the amount of information provided in the video I would like to add some more context. The study, conducted by Pilot Institute was based on research that evaluates crashes based on fatal crashes per million hours of flight/driving time in the USA. This means that the numbers are not skewed due to the difference in numbers of cars and airplanes/their passenger capacity. The main reason behind these crashes is pilot error, this is due to both a far less regulated environment for GA vs airline transport and pilots having less experience/training.

The purpose of the video was to add some more context to the cliche “the drive to the airport is the most dangerous part of a flight” because I was actually very surprised when I learned that that’s not always the case, and found that it would be interesting to share. If you’re looking for even more details or want to verify the source check out the video from Pilot Institute on the matter. Unfortunately I cannot provide you with a link in the comments of YouTube Shorts

yes from all the recent crashes mostly these small general aviation aircraft. The reason is not much experience, poor maintenance, and much more prone to problems with the aircraft, airliner pilots are well trained and experienced in how to act in different situations involving emergencies.

As working in C172 a lot - I tend to find myself alive

It's dangerous because people flying on small general aviation planes are just starting out and probably don't have much experience unlike commercial airliners.

just so u know the amount it takes to get a cesna 172 out of CG requires both pilots to be above 400 pounds, 2 passengers in the back about 200 pounds, a full tank of fuel which is about 50 gallons x6 which is 300 more pounds and on top of all of that, you need to be carrying another 100 pounds of luggage in the back, this plane just on the CG side is very reliable, but other factors play into this like weather, you don’t want to go when it’s hot/humid it will decrease the aircraft’s takeoff performance, you want to go when it’s cold and dry which will boost its performance.

It can actually be a lot safer than driving your car if you follow the checklist’s and follow the procedures. The issue is most pilots don’t follow the rules and that’s why there is accidents.

True but sometimes new pilots would have instructors guiding them

“The longer the plane and the more wide it is it’s the safer” an extremely wise man

But even then, if your engines had a bird strike or simply cut out for an unknown reason, those smaller planes can easily glide down, and it has an advantage because it's small and can land in small areas

its dangerous since planes have more than 100 deaths in one crash while cars have less than 50.

Although, the C172 is a very well made airplane, and it having a mechanical failure is almost never the cause of crashes (I’m excluding engine fail as that’s not made by Cessna ), and even if the engine fails it’s not difficult to land one . Most of the GA crashes in these things are pure pilot error

most of the crashed are usually general aviation, for larger aircraft like a Boring 737 MAX-9 (door) or 747-8F, its not that big of a deal since they have 2 engines (737) and 4 (747). just make sure the door stays on at cruising altitude and ur safe 👍
