I don't upgrade my gpu enough to buy one of these mobos

It is a minor improvement that will make someone's life easier. So no, it is not useless

Ugh, getting to those latches has always been a, "This is the best that they can come up with???" moment for me. So frustrating.

Yes it's a problem. I have large hands, and when I had a NH-D15, yes it made removing the GPU a MASSIVE PAIN. I cut my fingers more than once because of it.

Yeah, I love the quick release slot on my ASUS X670E Prime board. I contrast that to my asrock X670E steel legend motherboard which does not have a quick release solution. I've broken the latch off on the asrock board removing the card to put more SSDs in.

While it might be a minor issue to solve it is still an issue and I'm glad they are looking at it. The new ASUS release way you've demonstrated above makes me Hope this is added to all motherboards down the road.

Edit: while I do love Zach's videos I do think he's wrong on this one and I'm glad Brett's taking a more nuanced stance on it.

I didn't really enjoy trying to get my dying 3080 out of its slot when I semi-recently had to replace it. I broke a chopstick, tried several other items along the way, and was only finally able to push the tab down with a thick wooden bookmark. I appreciate the newer mechanisms that make the removal process less of a pain.

Companies have stopped innovating because they make solutions to small problems like these and get absolutely ripped to shreds over it.

I just use a chop stick to press the latch. Don't wanna stab a hole in my mobo with a flat head

That new ASUS mechanism is just begging to break more GPUs.

I mean it’s a solid feature and if this just becomes more of a standard then it’s good, if they try and turn it into some rare premium feature that costs more money then it kinda sucks.

As someone who’s never built a PC before I think something like this would be nice but when I do get a new one soon I wouldn’t pay extra for the exact same motherboard with this over the old system.

It would be very useful for those test rigs

Cpu and gpu makers have room to innovate and get better, but mobo makers, what can they improve???

I'll definitely find it useful. When I switched everything to a new case, I had trouble getting the gpu out.

I really appreciate this new update to the motherboards.

I also have a difficult time with the original release hatch.

For me, it’s a pretty good improvement, as I’m not very confident with working with computers, so not having to reach as far in to take out the gpu (ie for cleaning dust out) is a very good thing.

Just went through replacing my GPU two weeks ago and getting the old one out was a pain. While I was trying to remove the old one I even said that they need to make an easier way of removing them or do the manufacturers just make it this much of a pain so that you end up having to buy a new mobo.

I ended up having to remove part of my case and ram so that I could get a slotted screwdriver under the old GPU and press the lever down with that.

I honestly think that the feeling in the tip of my finger just came back after trying to just press the lever down with it first.

Those latches have been around for decades and as someone who has been tinkering with PCs for decades, I no longer have issues with these

I still think the mechanism Apple designed for the 2019 Mac Pro is superior, but this is moving in the right direction. I just hope this tech becomes a part of the spec.
