Warranty agent on the phone: "so hows your gpu exactly?"

-"medium rare"

“What’re you baking? Cookies?”
“No, my graphics card”

Important note: Don't put cheese on the GPU before baking it, it just makes things worse.

After that, you cannot use that oven anymore because of the leaks of chemicals from the card's capacitors. Now it becomes a dedicated graphics oven 👌.

Only a temporary fix unfortunately, the tiny solder calls under the chip are weakened and will crack again shortly. The permanent solution is a reball.

I tried this after my 6 years of regular use.
The video output on windows worked as though I had no drivers installed.
On Linux, the gpu would not be detected and only TTYs worked.
Baking revived my GTX 760.
I have no idea how much life it has left in it, but it's better than just replacing it with a new one.
We baked it 3 years ago and it works to this day with minimal usage.

This method is temporary, the chip itself is defective so it will eventually die again. Also, heating the entire PCB is completely unnecessary and can kill other components.

Heating just the chip with a heat gun at 180-220ºC is enough for this type of *temporary* fix

Ok just because this guy did it, don’t be throwing your 3090 in there😂

If you can listen carefully you can hear screaming of Louis rossmann in back ground

You literally only need to heat the backplate with a heat gun. And you can get one the same price of a "dedicated toaster oven." With almost zero risk of actually phucking up the gpu.

Fun fact

For much much older GPUs do not do this! There's this thing called migration and the microscopic traces of the semiconductor gets broken over time. It can reach a point where even this method does not work.

Also whenever you reflow a GPU apply soldering flux so that the solder joint stays shiny and solid. Cold solder joint is when the joint is not shiny and has no flux. That can cause micro cracks in the material and eventually you'll have a loose connection and once again a faulty GPU

Everyone: "makes jokes about baking a gpu"
*me realising the gpu doesnt work*

boiling your capacitors is a good way to solve faulty connections?

This is a temporary fix and your gpu will 99.9% of the time will fail again
And you can also use heat gun instead of oven

I did this with two laptop motherboards, worked like a charm, one of those laptops i use everyday haha. Oh, and it worked fine straight out of my everyday cooking oven Lol.

I did this a few times with my old gpu. First it worked for year more, then 6 months more, then again a few months. It's a neat trick if your warranty is overdue

This is such a classic method, always worth trying if everything else fails
