COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Blendon Township Police Department released bodycam video showing police officers fatally shooting Ta’Kiya Young in her car.

The family of the young pregnant Black mother viewed the video and on Friday denounced the shooting as a “gross misuse of power and authority."

The 21-year-old from Columbus was pronounced dead shortly after the Aug. 24 shooting outside a grocery store in the suburb of Blendon Township. Her unborn daughter did not survive.

Young's family's lawyer has criticized the delay of the bodycam footage, which comes more than a week after her death.

After viewing the footage, he says her death was avoidable and that the family is seeking a swift criminal indictment of the officers.

The justice system has taught would-be thieves that they can steal without accountability. The result is shoplifters that don't think they have to obey police. Hold your district attorney responsible for charging thieves, instead of releasing them so they can steal again.

The cop will be exonerated. She tried to kill him!

She didn't follow clear instructions from the officers. Once she started pulling away and hit the officer, the car became a lethal weapon. If she is willing to flee the scene then she is willing to run over someone, hit someone or get in an accident that might kill someone. She chose to use her car as a lethal weapon and flee police. There's nothing wrong with what the officer did. He met lethal force with lethal force and probably saved some innocent bystanders pain and suffering. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

They said she was stealing bottles of alcohol from day one and that she tried to run over a cop but ppl wasn’t listening. She put herself and her unborn child in danger. Sadly. They wanted to believe she was a victim. RIP

If cops knock on the window and say, "Get out of the car, " you follow instructions and get out of the car.
You do NOT attempt to run over one of the officers as you try and escape.

This is a perfect example of "f*ck around and find out".

Commits a crime. Stopped by police and told a dozen times to get out of the car. Refuses. Then uses the car as a weapon and drives into an officer who has his gun drawn. The result is as expected as it is sad.
Pathetic choices that lead to the worst consequences.

This was easily avoidable. If u didn't steal anything shy try and run. She knows she was stealing and tried mowing down a cop. The reward for that is being shot. Just so stupid sometimes. Stupid thieves.

Parking in a handicapped space stealing alcohol and then attempts to kill police officer tells me society doesn't need people like this

Why run away if you didn’t steal anything and have nothing to hide?

Refuses to leave the car when told to step out over 12 times, for alleged shoplifting, doesn’t leave, presses acceleration to run over the officer and gets shot. Seems like it’s a case of awful but lawful (a car is a deadly weapon)

Her own grandmother who raised her had a restraining order against her. Plus she parked in a handicap spot and then this shot. Model citizen. And good looking out for her unborn child not to mention the two she left at home to do this shit. They’re better off, as we all are.

So.. how should police stop the car without shooting? That black woman ignored command and decide to hit the policeman to run away.

Maybe you should follow directions from a police officer, pay attention to who will not comply

It's tragic but what exactly did she expect would happen when you attempted to run over a police officer

She tried to run over a police officer of the United States of America.

Want to know how this could’ve been avoided? Don’t break the law to begin with but if you do don’t let the street be your courtroom.

Think about how many lives could have been saved by just getting out of the car as the police requested. Instead, it becomes a dangerous deadly situation that did not need to occur.

If she would’ve complied she wouldn’t have died

The cop audibly pulled out his gun _only after_ the woman started turning her steering wheel, which is a sign that she intended to drive away, and in no driver’s manual does it say that you can drive with a pedestrian in front of your car as long as you turn the wheel hard enough. So despite what some people are saying, she didn’t attempt to drive away in panic because the cop unjustifiably had his gun out for no reason.

This woman died stoopid and this shooting is justifiable homicide. Why did she lurch that car forward ? Why wasn't it in park like drivers Ed tells you to do so when driving and stopped by an officer? That is assault with a deadly weapon. The cops will most certainly be exonerated. As they should be.
