Causes of Jaw Joint Noises: Snap, Crackle, and Pop!

Hearing the jaw pop, click, or crackle/crepitus with mouth opening and closing is a very common issue due to TMJ disorders. Pain may or may not be present. Because the ear canal and jaw joint (TMJ or temporomandibular joint) share a common boney wall, any noise created due to a TMJ disorder can also be easily heard.

In order to understand jaw joint noises — clicking, popping (1:45), crackling (2:25) — due to TMJ disorders, the animation will first explain how the joint looks and moves when it works normally (0:25).

My jaw clicks on 1 side only with no pain and massaging it allows it to resolve the clicking temporarily. My face is a bit asymmetrical as well with my right side being the one with more active and developed facial muscles

I know how to pop my jaws for years... I thought it normal, for me I must have my right hand to push my jaws then move around my jaw to make it pop. But it takes make try until it pop. It felt good when it pops.

That cracking sound due to disc degeneration is a fucked up condition called TMJ Osteoarthritis. As far as medicine is concerned it is completely incurable, it can only be "managed". I'm so fucking pissed right now that my favorite body part is fucking WEAK because of a stupid thing nobody even knows why it happens or how to cure it. I most likely have the best genetics for a human being to have the strongest bite as my skull specifically looks like it was built to have an extraordinary bite and my muscle mass is out of the ordinary. Yet my TMJ disc is not strong enough to keep up with my bite strength, which appears to be the cause of this disgusting condition. Allways the same thing the body starts failing from the weakest point. Now I have to do my own research for a decade so that I can cure my jaw. A man with a high enough intelligence level will surely KNOW that it is not incurable because it can't be impossible as there are so many possibilities.

And this is causing the noise in my left ear ? I pop and click every time I open and close my jaw and feel this pop and click on the left side. Can this really cause unilateral tinnitus? For me it’s on and of this tinnitus but it’s so annoying plus I have a history of jaw clenching and teeth tapping.
