I have a Bang & Olufsen TX2. It was my parents' and they have passed it on to me. I truly love it; I am still amazed at the uniqueness and craftsmanship of the player. It is a great conversation starter, and never skips a beat!

For all of you who are looking at getting a turntable the best route to go is vintage, the vintage turntables you can get for under 500 for a top of the line turntable because back then turntables where the market which made companies compete with each other for the best product at the best price which is always a good thing for the customer

I would recommend second hand quality turntable late 70's till the 90's my big issue with new turntables are the cheap gimics e.g Audio Technica and their cheaply made pre-amplifier which you cannot disable completely . For me I bought a Technics SL-23 and new ortofon headshell and cartridge.

I've been watching a lot of your videos lately when I had been researching what kind of record player to get when I had decided to get into the hobby a few weeks ago, so a lot of your videos have helped me a lot! I had ended up getting a AT LP60 (I wanted the 120 but just too much at the the moment) but so far I'm really loving the hobby of collecting! So thanks for all the helpful info! :)

My turntable is a vintage Technics SL-Q200 Quartz turntable. I bought it at the local Salvation Army thrift for only $20.00(actually $19.99 plus tax)and it works great. The only thing I needed to fix was the speed selector as it sometimes sped up a little when on the 33 speed, but had it fixed and it's working solid. Regarding what you said about 78's, I think that many would want to buy a turntable that plays them because they'd like to digitize them on their computers to preserve them and also, the same for 45's. That way, they can make their own mix CD's or download them to their MP3 players so they can take the music with them when out and about. The one advantage vinyl has is that there are still a lot of albums that are on vinyl that haven't been re-released on CD as of yet. I thought I'd share since you asked, Jarrett.

I laughed when you said Crosley because it was exactly what everyone's thinking 😂

Got my AT-LP120 locally for $170 Canadian. I've had it for almost 2 years now and it's certainly well worth the money. I think it's gone up in price. I don't particularly like the built in pre-amp because it automatically mutes the audio when you lift the stylus off the record, but sometimes it mutes between songs on a quiet record, and that is not good. I have yet to see if there's an adjustment inside to change the sensitivity of that. All in all, it's a great bang for the buck.

Thanks so much for the recommendation! I had no clue what record player to buy but I'll be buying the Audio-Technica! Definitely subscribing.

I have a 1978 Toshiba SM-3750 deck, probably the best I've ever heard when paired with good speakers. It was well looked after and had extremely minimal use until I acquired it in mid 2011. It retailed for about £600 back in 1978 so it wasn't a cheap item, not bad to say I only paid £6.50 for it off ebay and its mint condition. From what I've seen of the modern mainstream turntables though many are extremely plasticky and flimsy and sound very poor.

If the Toshiba ever did die though I would probably go for a vintage Bang & Oulfsen BeoGram setup or if my budget allowed perhaps a Linn LP12.

Just bought the Audio Technica ATLP 120 connecting it to a sony system. The sound is fantastic, and the price is good for the build quality of it. Will be using it for my new and vintage vinyl.

Would a Audio Technica Lp-60 be a good turntable for starting a record collection

I've tried several, Pioneer, AT, U-Turn, Pro-Ject.... even built my own, but as much as I love the idea of the manual turntables I got tired of always having to be there to pull the stylus off the record. If you forget one time and leave it spinning for hours there goes your expensive needle.

I finally went with a Denon DP 300F on sale for $149 ($300+ retail). It's the best inexpensive automatic turntable I could find. I swapped out the cartridge for a 2M Red, turned off the built in preamp and ran it through my Pro Ject E box preamp and it sounds sweet!

My point? I see what you love about the ATLP120. It's not the best, it's not the prettiest but the auto mechanizm is a huge plus. I liked my U-Turn, I loved my Debut Carbon, but still wouldn't trade this Denon for any of them.

One of the issues with Crosley is that they had to compromise quality and cost. They wanted to build a low-cost turntable, and that means cutting costs on features, like a counterweight.
The counterweight is one of the most important things on a turntable. With these plastic tonearms, you'll never know what weight the needle is pressing on the vinyl. Too much, and it'll chew away to the record and not enough will make the record skip easily.

It doesn't make sense to play a $50 record on a $79 turntable.. Like putting premium fuel in a Pinto (according to Channel 33 RPM ).

Great video!

I have a Technics SL-3 linear tracking turntable from the 1980's and just recently bought an Audio Technica cartridge for it because I found the original cartridge had a lot of sibilance and didn't sound too good. But now with the new cartridge the player sounds really great.
