Homemade maple syrup 🍁
Показать описание
That’s right, if you have a maple tree in your yard, you can make maple syrup! We’ve been doing this for 10 years and I look forward to it each spring.
There are several different ways to collect the sap, we came up with this and it works really well for us. Using the buckets with these enclosed lids reduces the amount of particles that fall in.
Ideal temps for collecting sap are freezing temperatures at night and thawing temperatures during the day.
Once your 5 gallon bucket is full, run it through a cheesecloth a few times and move to a large pot. The way you boil it is a personal preference. We have a small operation going on so I usually boil it in the garage in an electric burner or inside. It does cause a lot of steam to boil it inside. If you have a lot of sap, you can make an outside fire.
Throughout the day check on your sap and continue to add more. Once it starts forming a brown hue and is a small enough of sap, move to a smaller sauce pan. Run through a cheesecloth once more. Pop a candy thermometer in and watch carefully. Although it takes hours and hours to boil the sap, once it gets to this step it ends quickly.
Once the thermometer reaches 219, it is good to go. Research the temp where you live, as it is different in each region.
Once cooked and placed in the fridge where it can last up for a year. Enjoy!
