Have you successfully transitioned to the iPad?

This year, I invested in an iMac and iPad Air with Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, this all replaced my old MacBook Pro. My needs aren’t complicated and don’t usually involved very heavy apps. I haven’t regretted my decision. My iPad is lighter and more convenient to carry around and takes up less space. Agreed ‘Files’ can be awkward, but that’s OK.

I’ve been iPad only since 2014. When the big iPad Pro and the current Magic Keyboard came out and I got the pair, I’ve hardly ever thought about needing a Mac, or any lap/kesktop for that matter. And the IPad Mini is pretty damn handy also.

Oh man Mark, what a timely video! I have been iPad out the door and Mac at my desk guy for 2 years. I work in an outside sales roll. I really love the iPad for a lot of reasons but it also frustrated me for the dumb downed apps and file management. No smart mailboxes to name one beef. My Mac book is a MBP 16" and I tried it as a mobile device but it was just too cumbersome (I do a lot of work in the vehicle). Considered trading both in and getting a 14" MBP. Then I went to our local Best Buy and while checking the 14"MBP out ended up checking out the 13" Air. Went home and pondered what I wanted to do and discovered the Air was on sale for $150 off. I now own the Air and I'm madly in love with it. It's going to make my work life so much simpler. That said, my iPad still has a place (working the floor at conventions) and won't be going anywhere. Cheers!

I made the switch to (essentially) iPad only years ago. My primary device for much of that time has been the iPad Pro but I have been experimenting of late with primarily using the iPad Mini. That having been said, I primarily work with text rather than video so it had made that much more possible.

Hmm, interesting video. I suppose I’d put myself in the iPad only category, but for quite a different reason than you mentioned. For my work I have a Windows laptop issued to me by the company I work for and I do not want to use this for personal use. For many years I had a Windows desktop PC (yes, I liked to tinker a little), but in recent years I have found the iPad such a versatile and portable machine it really is my go-to device for pretty much anything! Since stage manager was introduced I can use it for personal admin tasks a lot more easily, play games, watch films, read books, draw things and take notes using the Apple Pencil, etc. Put me on a desert island where I wouldn’t need my laptop for work, I would definitely opt for the iPad!

Before I obtained the replacement parts...new power switch and some upgrades...I rocked an iPad...alone... for months. My needs are too few and simple for even an iPad, to be honest. My 8th gen iPad and Magic Keyboard are all I need most of the time. Your videos got me using the Paperlike screen protector and my 1st gen Apple Pencil to great advantage. A laptop...even my cheap Linux laptop...is just too much for me to lug about with me. The iPad suffices. I'm glad to see you enjoying your one. Aloha.

I just got an 11 inchM1 iPad Pro last week to go with my 14 inch M1 MacBook Pro that I’ve had for a bit over a year now

The combo is good for me because I want my iPad for DJing, editing photos and thumbnails and the MacBook for the heavy stuff

My only iPhone was back in 2008 with the iPhone 3G, didn’t really want to get a iPhone this year since I been an Android user since 2007. So I got a iPad mini 6 cellular version and drop using an Android phone since I use Talk-A-Tone app I replace a phone and bigger tablet use since switching. Been happy ever since. Cheers mate

I am in the "Both Campus"; however, my M2 MacBook Air is my go too. I also use the iPad as a second screen when I am in a mobile situation. I actually love both of them.

I’m iPad only and have been for a few years now. I have an IPad Pro 12.9 and the Magic Keyboard. I purchased the M2 14” MacBook Pro and I just can’t get switched over. I’m in Bali today and I didn’t even bring the MacBook because on my last trip i never used it. I just use my iPad and iPhone. I also use a newer IPad Pro with the Apple Pencil for work.

I could have almost wrote the script for this video. I spend 90% of my time on an iPad Pro, but Some things are just easier on a Mac like file management, multi tasking, and creating new spreadsheets in Numbers. BTW making movies with the pencil in Luma Fusion is pretty intuitive and you can work off an external drive if you can plug into power at the same time.

I did the switch a year ago and as a content creator I am happy with my iPad pro. I use Lumafusion. I only use the laptop for my 9-5 work

Right now I’m using an MBA 15 and an Ipad Air M1. I‘m pretty sure to sell the MBA as soon as the rumored Ipad Air 12.9 enters the stage.

Totally agree! The iPad does what it does well but it's not a Macbook replacement yet and I don't see how it will ever be.

I used a IPad mini 4 cellular under the $20 AT&T unlimited tablet plan for a year. I used Google voice and the IPad could easily receive texting as well. I used ear pods when I wanted a private conversation, however texting was used mostly. Under that plan, 10gb hotspot came with it and that was handy. It’s really an inexpensive setup, so good that my daughter is using the IPad with the same plan while at college. The whole bill comes to $23.46 after taxes/fees and she can easily afford that.

I’m in a 4th category: iMac + iPad !
When I want to work, I use my 27 inches intel iMac. When I need portability, I use my 1st gen iPad Pro (they are both still working !)
The MacBook is the worst of both world to me: screen AND keyboard way to small for work and no touch screen when I’m on the go.

I have a Mac Pro (2019) but stopped using it when i stopped creating 3D animation. Now as a cartoonist I’ve been iPad only for about a year and im loving it. Even for personal use. I’m admittedly a bit of a minimalist
