She was so tied to the idea that she needed to be married to be happy that it caused her more unhappiness in her life than ever before. In the end she realizes she doesn’t need marriage for happiness and that she doesn’t want another woman to feel the pain she did so she moved on and finally felt at peace while victoria got to marry her love and victor was not partly forced into a marriage
