The dynamic between Victoria's parents is pretty entertaining. They have a kind of cynical chemistry despite denying they like eachother.

Am I the only one who sees the moment with the stairs like a symbol? Like, well, Victor's family is going upstairs as they are about to raise their status. And Victoria's family is going downstairs as they consider Victor's parents to be the ones of the lower rank. Maybe it makes sense...?

Interesting that the parents are rather similar on both sides.

The mothers are emotional "extremes" (beautiful day, terrible day, glorious wedding, ominous wedding)

While the fathers are the grounding forces that are more towards center.

I don't know if it was intentional, but at the end of the song, when you see lord and lady Everglot descending down the stairs to rescieve the van Doorts, who are in turn ascending the stairs to the Eveglot manor, this can sort of be seen to mirror their respective social situations. The Everglots are marrying their only child and heiress to a newly rich merchant family for their money, which the higher social circles of the time tended to frown upon. Likewise, the van Doorts are marrying their son into old nobility for the social advantages this would bring, an act frowned upon by both their social equals in the mercantile classes and their social "betters" among the nobility who would see them as "uppity"

After watching the movie for the 8th time, I'm still catching new details. How fun!

I like how while Victoria's parents act like they hate each other, while in reality they love each other, while Victor's parents clearly love each other.

I love how Ms. Van Dort's verses are complemented with a Harpsichord and her hurband by the clarinets and oboes, which does match their tone and personality right at the beggining of the movie. And of course, the Everglots having heavy brasses in their parts while Victor and Victoria go for flutes and violins. This song manages to perfectly stablish the world and characters with instrumentation alone.

What I find most interesting about Victoria's parents isn't that they secretly like each other as everyone claims. It's that they understand that nothing good comes from arguing with each other.
They may have minor disagreements, but overall they are almost always on the same page. And they treat each other, not with *love* but *respect.* They have a mutal understanding and respect for each other, which are some of the most important aspects of a relationship.
