I had a little mini schnauzer, who once ate a box of chocolates Christmas Eve that we did not until the morning. Of course there is no vet around on Christmas Day. My disasters ALWAY happens on holidays! All we could so is watch her, make sure she drank a lot of water. She had a tummy ache, but that was about it....thank goodness! She was a little snoop and would rummage through the gifts under the tree. So at Christmas she had to stay in my room, with the doors closed at night. She lived to be 16 yo. Sadie girl was my first schnauzer and I have had them for 40 years. Love the breed.

I noticed something when bringing chocolate near my dogs whenever they are nosy when I bake brownies and cakes and my initial observation was that I had unintentionally trained my dogs to not eat whatever is toxic to them.

Everytime I eat chocolate sitting at my table, the dogs would stare at me while I was eating chocolate and they would do so til I finished and I would feel bad and give em a pupperino treat so I wouldn't feel bad about eating in front of them... do this for several years and they become so aware that they won't get chocolate that you could leave chocolate on the ground and they'll notify me of it which gets them treats and eventually I caught on and started putting chocolate scented fake chocolate on random spots and they would sit or lay beside it til I got home and then they would paw at my leg to tell me chocolate is close by which of course gets these sweet babies of mine doggy treats ❤😊

Now that's what I wanted to know a comparable size of chocolate. I drives me crazy people say chocolate is toxic to dogs. Of course most of us know that but I appreciate knowing a amount. My dog a couple years ago picked up an open pack of reeses cups soneone dropped in the street. He picked out one of the cups and I was lucky I got it out of his mouth in time all intact.

This is like holding a match next to gasoline while explaining how dangerous it would be to drop the match.

My labrador could eat an entire Christmas tree's worth of chocolate decorations. He left all the wrappers on the tree.

Fun fact: There is a substance called Carob, which is a substance that is chocolate, just for dogs. I think it has little to no theobromine, so it’s very safe :D

Yep. $700.00 emergency vet but think she had thrown it all up before we got there. The hydrogen peroxide followed by charcoal capsules would have done the job but we didn’t know how much time had gone by. We had to sell things to get the money in to pay for the vet bill that went on the credit card. We are still very careful but guess what? Somehow she found a 14 year old clear marble and buried it under my blanket. She is relentless when it comes to scaring me to death.🍀

Fiuh....😢 Almost drop my heart knowing chocolate is dangerous for a dog. But now I'm relieved that it's not about the chocolate but the amount.

My dog really like a cookie that chocolate flavoured so I gave him that sometimes but not much, never had a symptoms or anything. Looks completely healthy but from now on, I will be careful choosing a snack for him. Thanks sir!
