My one piece of advice is spend time working with vets before even thinking about applying to schools. I took a gap year between undergraduate school and vet school and it was the smartest thing I ever did. I worked in a large small animal clinic where I got a lot of practice drawing blood, placing catheters etc . Vet students don’t get as much practical experience as you might think. I also volunteered for stirrer stints with vets at the track, mixed animal practice (they eventually paid me) and a sport horse equine practice. Because of all the factors this gal mentioned you want to be sure you know what you’re getting into . It also gives you a framework which makes it easier to understand why you need to know all the stuff you study. I’ve been out of school 31 years and I would do it over in a heartbeat.

I feel like I learned so much from this video. I've always wondered what it was like to become a vet and I realize I had a totally different idea of what it like😂

Hey! Super insightful video. I’m on my third certificate in veterinary nursing and have a guaranteed spot in my university after I finish this as well as a cert four in biology next year.

I am really enjoying the theory in class, I find that of course we can’t touch onto everything we need as the certificate is on a low level but I’m trying to do my own personal study to gain a better understanding.

But here’s where it gets kind of annoying. I’m doing work experience in a veterinary practice, I’ve done maybe around 23 hours so far and it’s just absolute hell. The vet nurses always make me constantly clean and restock things, which is understandable for some things, such as sanitation and restocking the equipment, but they give me the most pointless cleaning things to do around the clinic and it’s just putting a horrible impression on me of being a vet.
I either sit around awkwardly or clean, I feel in the way whenever I’m around any of the vet nurses, the vets though I love what they’re doing and I’m so interested in it, I just hate what’s happening right now and I don’t know what to do I suppose. Sorry this has been kind of ranty.
But yeah, I’m learning essentially nothing on the job other then vet specific things- like where certain things are in that one specific vet or whatever, total bs!!

How do you get through this without wanting to literally kill yourself? Also you mentioned you were on last year of vet school. Have you had mental breakdowns? Has the content been too overwhelming? I’m nervous it will be too challenging for you I’m not sure. Regardless I’m just sick of being a janitor lmao, Thankyou for listening to my Ted talk.

Hey love your videos ! first time vet applicant time and have managed to get offers so your videos are making me super excited to hopefully start in september . Also i found the interviews you did with different vet students so helpful in making my final decision on my first/second choice considering there were no in person open days for those who applied this year :)

Not me working in restourant in my mid 30 listening carefully 😅.
On your point of graduating later than other degrees - at the end of the day, you are a Doctor. So it does make sense to take longer.
