That's right- those giant orb weavers you see out in the woods? I'm testing a bite. If you ever wondered how bad it is... the answer might be surprising!

Here at MyWildBackyard we investigate the secrets of the natural world- secrets that can be hidden in our very own backyards! I want to share the incredible world of insects, spiders and other wildlife with you and inspire you to explore your curiosity. Get out there, and find your adventure!

For those who read the description- we've updated the channel! I'm working on adding more features to videos to better expand our conversations about the secrets we find in the natural world! Introducing the Creature Tier System! There are four rankings:
1. Staple - These are the lowest tier creatures. They are the most common species in a given habitat, and while they're not boring, they're really only exciting when you're exploring a new habitat and you haven't seen them before. Not something to write home about.
2. Neat - These are a step up from Staple. They don't make your entire day, but they are worth taking a closer look at when found. Definitely can be exciting to have a productive day finding many Neat species.
3. Wild - These are exciting to find. Whether they have interesting defensive features that offer a nice challenge in the field, are particularly cool looking, or maybe a little bit rare, Wild species aren't necessarily the MOST memorable of encounters, but they definitely make your day when you see them. An adventure featuring many Wild species will truly be memorable.
4. Gem - These are special. Usually involving extremely interesting biology and significant rarity, Gem species are animals that you really do not see every day. These species can make your whole adventure, and will be very memorable.
5. ???? - Is there a Creature Tier above Gem? Stick around to find out....
Each of these Creature Tiers are a spectrum, and we can debate the placements of various animals in the comments section!

Really appreciate you taking the time to point out how docile these guys actually are (your other vids too).

Bro you’ve helped me much with my fear or spiders. I never thought I would’ve come it. I’ve been scared of even the smallest spiders possible and videos like these help me feel somewhat comfortable of them around me. I still don’t like most of them touching me, but now I have a better understanding that I’m not in danger

I'm glad you and Coyote are around to take these bites for the rest of us. Definitely not in my wheelhouse. The venom explanation totally makes sense from an evolutionary standpoint. Nice info.

The part with the jumping spider at the beginning gave me a bit of a chuckle. While the images of other spiders are shown in a biting fashion, the jumping spider is just patting your arm.

I lived in the Everglades My whole life, had never been afraid of spiders but never really handled one after binge watching your videos I decided to give it a try. Got a banana spider out of the backyard on a stick. Waited for it to calm down and walk itself onto my hand. What an amazing experience getting to see it that close and enjoy. It really makes you think just how important every little living thing out here is. Thank you for your videos.

I love videos that show just how reluctant most spiders are to bite humans. That is valuable to them to subdue their prey, they definitely don't want to waste it on us.

Recovering arachnophobe here lol - I appreciate this! I’m from Florida and one of my scariest spider memories as a kid is being on a trail and suddenly looking up to see hundreds of spiders in webs across the tree canopy right above me, including some banana spiders. Trying to reframe that silhouette as a thing of beauty instead lol

I love this guy's channel. He shows that yes, things do attack and harm you, but quite often it's YOUR fault, not the creature's fault. He's very gentle with these creatures.

I live in Okinawa, Japan and yes we have these awesome beautiful spiders!! I've had a couple on my arm accidentally and nothing happened. Absolutely love these spiders and glad to have them as my "neighbors". They eat insect pests.

We have a ton of these in Georgia now, legit have 5 or 6 around the house at the moment. Never seen them here until 2 or 3 years ago. They kind of remind me of the skulltula spider thing from Zelda with their skull shaped head. Their webs are impressive too! If you wait til the spider leaves and take the web down and twist all the fibers together it feels like a soft braided fishing line.

I'm so excited that you did the Banana spider!! However underwhelming for sure! These are one of my favorites to watch. Probably because they are so open about everything they do. Thank you for doing this one. Have a great Sunday! 😉

I always was intimidated by these things. Growing up in Florida I had one of these things living on my house I grew up. The Banana Spider was about 7 inches. One day in elementry school learned about spider how they eat flies.

I would catch flies and feed them to that same massive banana spidef. Then cockroaches, praying mantis, grasshopers, crikets, and even a dragonfly. Yes a dragon fly! Those webs are very strong. It was kool seeing the spider in action wrapping up its meal. One time i place a small leaf on the web to see what it would do and it just brusjed the leaf off its web. These things are truley incredible. I felt like me and that Banana Spider were freinds. :)

I was really afraid of spiders when I was a kid, I've lost that fear over the years, but watching your videos has helped me a lot to finally get rid of that feeling completely, thank you for doing this!

Orb weavers are so cool. Some people call them writing spiders because they make zigzags in there webs. They also shake there web when they’re alarmed, just caught prey or when a mate is near.

Amazing. You have just disproved everything I ever heard about banana spiders. Thank you for rolling up your sleeves and actually getting to work with this one.

Glad you are both okay.

That was a warn bite. I don’t think it was a full fledged bite, seems like when these creatures feels comfortable with you, they just treat you as a friend, no matter what you do to them they just don’t want to hurt you! Incredibly nice! This species has a heart of gold to be honest!
