First Time Guide To Seasoning A Carbon Steel Pan ( New De Buyer Mineral B Pan ) |The FOOD-DEE BASICS

This first-time guide to seasoning a carbon steel pan is a great way to teach you how to season your carbon steel or cast iron pans. Carbon Steel and cast iron pans create a natural non-stick coating allowing you to cook delicate things like eggs and fish. Using Teflon or other non-stick pans use chemicals and is dangerous when heated to a high temperature. this is not an issue with Carbon Steel or cast iron pans.

My De Buyer is about two years old, and it's been my favourite pan for a while now. I love it more than my cast iron skillets

I used your video as a great general guide to seasoning my first CS and DeBuyer, and it was clear, concise, and to the point. Thank you!

Used your video to season my (first) carbon steel de Buyer Lyonnaiser pan! Love this pan already, first time seasoning and it's almost fully non stick already! Too bad I didn't know about these kind of pans before, but they are way easier and better to cook with than common teflon pans.

Canola oil = Canada oil, originally a biproduct of industrial lubricant, now a part of your diet.

Good point about the burner being a flame to get heat up the sides. The same problem exists for cooking. Due to the inefficient heat transfer of this outdated cooking surface, induction and glasstop electric (which have much smaller heating elements than the templates in the glass indicate), the temperature differential between the center of the pan and the edges can be 75*. Only cook on cast iron and carbon steel on gas flames. Since the powers that be are moving to rob us of our choice of cooktop, these pans are doomed.

Exactly the same as coating stainless steel. 4-5 cycles of thin coats of oil heated until they smoke and it will be like glass.

Great video. Can you put this pan with its handle in the oven? I was told the Mineral B handle has silicon and can’t. But I’ve seen others who do.

I have slight tackiness in one little section. I looked at another video and it said that happens when too much oil is used. What do I do?
