You need a teammate who knows the plan and hope the defense isn't going for the rebound, or it becomes harder to score. Nowadays, with everyone chasing rebounds, it's rarer to get this chance. Cruyff probably noticed the other team wasn't chasing rebounds and signaled Olsen to try this strategy. Interestingly, Jesper Olsen got hit hard by his teammate during the celebration😂. In Barcelona's case, I believe Messi intended to pass to Neymar, but Suarez's instincts took over and he went for it. Also, this 2-touch penalty wasn't invented by Johan Cruyff. In the summer of 1957, Rik Coppens did it in Belgium vs. Iceland game. While on 1 May 1957, Jimmy McIlroy & David Blanchflower did it against Portugal in Northern Ireland's 3-0 victory at Windsor Park.

Cruijff's game intellect was decades ahead of his time

Fun Fact -: when messi and Suarez did that the pass from messi was meant for Neymar not suarez😂

Fifa fr hates goalkeepers. Attackers can do so much during penalty kicks (pass, stutter, etc..) yet goalkeepers can't do anything. They have to stay on the line and cant even distract the taker anymore. If goalkeepers can't distract the taker then takers shouldn't be allowed to do a stutter run up.

Is there anything in football that can’t be traced back to Cruyff?

Also interesting one about penalties. The taker can now stop in his run up. Saw a lot of people commentating on Ronaldo and Lewandowski. But it isn't against the rules anymore. Only thing not allowed is a fake shot.

If you’re a long-time Arsenal fan, you’ll know about this as that moment would have been burned into your memory.

Jesper Olsen was such a good player...
He made a terrible mistake in 1986 world cup, against Spain. That still traumatises the danish national team. And Jesper became a scapegoat...
We also had a magnificent team with Laudrup, Elkjær, Simonsen and more

How is it a loophole when it's explicitly allowed?

This is the equivalent of opening a packet of crisps using a magnifying glass and the sun, to run a heat beam across the top.

It doesn't need to be an ATTACKING player touching it first otherwise the keeper saving it wouldn't count

Our entire football team does this, we all thought it was normal to do it.

One of the first ones was done by Coppens and Piters while playing for Belgium in a qualifier against Iceland in 1957.

no not 2nd attacking player. Just any other player. as if a keeper saves it. penalty scorer can score the rebound.

The only situation I can see anyone attempting this is during the final moments of a 5-0 victory over a bitter rival. The odds obviously do not favor it.

First one was in Belgium, before Cruyff's one. Coppens did it in 1957

that's not a loophole, it's just a rarely used rule
