In this video, I give you 5 tips on how to start being more self-sufficient in growing vegetables at home in your own backyard.

Using the links below also helps support my channel:

Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane - the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let's get into it! Cheers, Mark :)

Mark I'm almost half a world away in the Highlands of Scotland but love and benefit from your work nevertheless mate. Your veggie vids and your poultry uploads were entirely inspirational in our move closer to nature and onto our own plot of land to grow and enjoy our own meat, eggs, fruit and veg. We've even started to help pay for our fabulous ever more self sufficient lifestyle by supplying local small hotels and a deli with our quail eggs and produce. Just wanted to say thanks for doing what you're doing mate, one ex-military man to another, top bloke! 👍

I’ve watched so many of your videos and they’ve inspired me to turn an acre of our front yard into raised beds! Love from Florida!

Because of lockdown, I tried planting some tomatoe seeds, onions, etc. I don't have any experience in planting or gardening, but this world situations taught me a big lessson. So, I learned to watch, how to plant, decompost, etc., thank you sir, I learned a lot...

As I'm very limited with space, I don't grow anything that takes time and is cheap to buy, such as potatoes, carrots, and onions.
Instead, I grow leafy greens which we eat heaps of, herbs, tomatoes and capsicum/chilli plus a lot of items you wouldn't normally see in a supermarket.
Also lots of berries which are costly to buy.
We get lots of fresh organic produce and save money on the grocery bill to boot.
Keep spreading the word Mark

going on from growing what you eat, you can regrow a lot of supermarket veggies, I have dozens of spring onions that i regrew from the supermarket, there's also purple cabbage, sweet potato, garlic, onion, potato and rosemary. Also just had some strawberries sprout from scraps i threw around some plants.
