I’m a senior studying Computer Science at Stanford and today I decided to film a day highlighting today’s adventures. Most of it involved coding.
NOTE: Filmed before social distancing and stay at home recommendations took place.

I hate when you fix an error and then you magically develop two more errors.

don't forget the part when you're about to sleep and out of nowhere you know how to solve the bugs :"

Movie Coding: Ah yes, I've successfully hacked into the pentagon with only 12 lines of code!
Real Coding: Goddamnit, where did I put that curly bracket?

This video really shows the psychology of a cs student well. the part where you said you only talked to one person all day really hit me

From what I can tell, a majority of students in CS dont know what’s going on and that’s okay. It’s a lot of information but everything boils down to fundamentals and problem solving. So rely on one another and offer help when you can. I’m a freshman and I’m considering declaring CS as my major because I like making shit work the way I want to. I even made an app in highschool and even though it was hard, it was fun

Here because my program has bugs and stackoverflow has no answer for me and I can't google shit because I don't know what to google exactly BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM and I'm tired of crying into my pillow so I'm here looking for other people who are hopeless like me so we can all be hopeless together

Stack overflow is just life saving, whoever invented it is a Saint.
The only really "bad" thing about it is copying code from people saying that their code "works"

The fact that this video came up in my feed after trying to solve a programming bug that took me three hours is more than a coincidence.

Hours and hours devoted to googling and finding what the exact problem is only to find out that you forgot to add an ampersand in a scanf statement

Learning python as a sophomore, and I’m pretty much teaching myself . Wish me luck. :)

Also if anyone knows of any internships, please feel free to comment them below. :)

Seriously impressed you built an app like this in 2 weeks while managing a full course load at Stanford. How much prior knowledge did you have before your final project?

Thank you SO MUCH for posting a realistic day while attending such a wonderful university. I'm in my second year of grad school and when I'm starting to lose focus after sitting for hours and frustration and fatigue kicks in, it's reminders like this that keep me studying. Much appreciation!

I really understand your pain. I was a Computer Science before changing to an Computer Information Systems major. Both majors involved a lot of coding and I at times found it so stressful. However I felt that doing band in college helped me stay sane. One of my hardest projects was when I had to do a stack program and my last programming that involve creating a crypto currency with a team.
