Why does a piano have black & white keys? What's the logic behind the layout of the piano keyboard? Why is there no black key between E and F, and why is E# and F the same note?
To answer these questions, we need to understand the logic behind the most important musical scales.
From the circle of fifths to the pentatonic scale, from diatonic modes to a full chromatic system: In this video, I try to explain the logic behind our harmonic system and the structure of the musical scales we use today.

Since I received so much wonderful feedback for my video about the 12-tone-system, I decided to do another educational video − hope you'll find it helpful!

Please let me know if you found it worth watching, and if you're interested in more content like this (no worries, I won't stop creating piano covers)!

Needless to say, I'm incredibly thankful for any feedback, like, and subscription.

(I arrange all kinds of music for piano: classical, oldies, pop, movie soundtracks, TV theme songs, jazz, and everything in between!)

My old piano teacher made a song with the chromatic scale in part of it, this brings me back :)

This is beautifully done, but has a bias to the piano keyboard rather than an isomorphic keyboard approach. With modern technologies, there's no real reason to stick to a very large and heavy piano. Now, do the same video, but with the input device an isomorphic keyboard. That would be an interesting contrast.
