In spite of J.R.R. Tolkien not being a fan of cinema during his lifetime, I believe he would have overall found Peter Jackson's Hobbit and Lord of the Rings films impressive for a Middle-earth adaptation considering how vast and complex Tolkien's works are. It may or may not have been enough for Tolkien to enjoy watching them considering said point, however he definitely would have thought Jackson nailed the Shire, Rivendell, and Smaug with the way it matches what's shown and described in his artwork and writings. He would have likely viewed the movie adaptations as separate, although inspired works in their own right. I'm sure that he would have found his son Christopher's expectations for the adaptations unrealistically high and wouldn't have approved of his grandson Simon being shunned by Christopher because of it, especially since Disney wasn't involved with the films.

Tolkien wrote several good books about a world he made. Disney took old fairy tales and changed the endings to make them 'nicer' then sold them to the world. Comparing them doesn't seem right. Also a lot of the Disney comments are things Disney have done more recently as Disney became a brand and Tolkien didn't
