Funny how the Beatles seriously considered making a film of Lord of the Rings years before Peter Jackson.

So did Tolkien actually say anything about the Beatles or is it all conjecture?

A lot of adults from Tolkien's generation didn't like The Beatles, in much the same way parents today often disapprove of the music their teenage kids like. Mick Jagger's dad derogatorily dismissed The Rolling Stones as "jungle music" although he enjoyed a good relationship with his son.

We're living times when many people are like blaming The Beatles for the extraordinary talented and succesful that they were. All of a sudden, you can see that hate everywhere in comment sections of Stones, ac/dc or Maiden videos. Very strange.

Fun fact: tolkien wasn't all that grumpy about modern society... He encouraged Led Zeppelin to write music about his Books and considered it an hornor.

The guy liked monarchy, middle ages, good culture, was a traditional Catholic and disliked strongly modern times, industry and machines. What a shock he disliked the pop consumerist trash music.

The sad fact is, there's as many bad conswquences due to the 1960s, as well as good things.
The hippie movement, for instance, was disliked by the very beat poets, who without, the movement would not exist.

They were being hailed as something they never were, and, from their perspective, it had become something they never supported.

Jack Kerouac despised the hippies.

Irresponsible sex, drug use and liberal ideals themselves being abused and weaponised are something even now it's admirers and the media don't like to focus on too much.

George Harrsion famously went to see the hippies in America and had a pretty horrible experience.

The truth? There were pleny of snakes using the peace and love era. And, another thing? It was a middle and upper class type thing. The love era was just as commercialised as any other era.

John Lennon, one of it's greatest icons, was happy to call it in his own songs.

Tolkein wasn't just an old man but someone who saw the 1960s from a place of experience. Not just because he didn't like it. Nothing is ever one sided.

The Beatles were extraordinarily gifted musicians and songwriters, but they were very young, modestly educated, and . . . pretentious. Their melodies and chord progressions sometimes often were sublime. Their lyrics often were clever, but lacked a lot of wisdom. They reinforced the young Boomer departure from the accumulated wisdom of the millenia, which caused them to think they were intrinsically wiser that everyone else. And that trend has continued and escalated through to the Gen Z's.

That's okay, we hated his stupid, pretentious, boring "novels" so we're even.

Maybe he heard Ringo's drumming ruining so many songs and became extensively annoyed
