XFCE with Debian 11 runs at around 300MB or less on my ThinkPad X40. I can even use Firefox with multiple tabs open on that old thing.

The more RAM available to the system, the more the software will use.
On the other hand, Debian 11 on a Pentium III and 256MB of RAM and LXDE was at around ~90MB.

Thanks for quickly and clearly answering my question. It seems I should stick to LXDE for my RPi. You saved me some time.

I recently started using XFCE instead of the Unity which came with Ubuntu on my computer I am using now. I find XFCE to work just as well and it gives me a 90s feel which I like.

Xfce if you have decent hardware like a i3 or something... But if you have some antient hardware just go with LXDE ... By antient i mean like core 2 duos and old celereon or atoms ...

If you want true lightweight, command-line is of course the most like weight. But no GUI.

1 perfect, next time would like along with face shot also monitor and something u are talking, maybe some examples, for now I have Dell Vostro 3300 I3 - 2.2, 8gb, ssd running optimized windows 10 multiboot with Linux, I tried meny version and desktops but didnt find exactly what i need for my purpose, writer, simple software like onenote, vivaldi, evernote, to-do, telegram and few others, garuda kde was laggy, manjaro kde was very functional, no problems as with many others, but i would like also have black arch, where garuda wasnt work well, kali didnt happy to finish install, now i am trying Garuda with Lx qt i like it more, but still laggy desktop on my dell, what i need je very easily switch between 6 desktops where i work at more of them simultaly, copying text between onenote and vivaldo, maybe u can compare these light fast customizable dekstoip deeper for some type of applications, for example i dont need animations, but desktops fast switch and customizable on mouse 4, 5 etc... tx
