In this video I provide an update on the situation in CUBA which is now suffering from Nationwide Blackouts. Cuba is in a state of ECONOMIC COLLAPSE and cannot afford to buy enough fuel to keep the country's lights on. The electricity grid is powered by OIL as a result of the fact that Cuba was receiving free Oil from the Soviet Union in the 60's, 70's and 80's. The grid is now old a decrepit and Cuba cannot afford to buy enough oil to keep the system running. No electricity means that businesses, schools and the healthcare system will not be able to open and that is only going to make the situation worse.

As a Cuban, son of a political prisoner, I find it insulting when visitors romanticize our degraded infrastructure and old cars as nostalgic relics of a bygone era. For 65 years, we've suffered under communist rule, with people imprisoned for decades simply trying to survive. Blaming the US embargo for our struggles is oversimplified and misleading. The Cuban government, not the US, has Expropriated small businesses, Banned fishing and Suppressed peaceful protests. If you truly care about Cuba, consider the harm tourism can cause by funding a machiavellian system of torture and oppression. #TouristStayHome

"One of the bitter ironies of the 20th century was that communism, which began as an egalitarian doctrine accusing capitalism of selfishness and calloused sacrifices of others, became in power a system whose selfishness and callousness toward others made the sins of capitalism pale." - Thomas Sowell

Hi, Joe,
I'm a longtime follower of your channel, and I am Cuban and live in the island, have never left. The situation is catastrophic, there are areas in the country that have 48-hours blackouts. The economy is a total disaster, paired with a failed government. Things are looking quite sad for all of us.

Thanks for showing the realities of this population that is suffering a lot.

I am Cuban living in France and I lived under this horrible dictatorship that controls every aspect of your life in the island. The Cuban regime loves to blame others for their failure, poverty and not on the inherent nature of the communist system that was also a failure all over the world. However, Cuba is able to trade with the rest of the world but they do not produce anything and they have very low credit because they simply do not pay back creditors. Cuba is a fertile island surrounded by water, there should be an abundant production of food, but it does not even produce local food, it has to import everything. It is inconceivable that you can hardly find fish, meat, local vegetables in the stores, things that could be produced in the island. Cuba actually lives off the remittances sent from the USA. Cuba is in reality a feudal state, where the elite in power enjoys Mercedes, travels abroad, owns beautiful properties and do not have to endure the blackouts, long lines for food, or lack of running water, etc, the common citizens have to go through. Instead of so much propaganda and playing the victim, why don't they simply run free elections so that the citizens decide if they want to go on with this totalitarian, empoverishing system? No. They prefer to go on blaming others with the embargo, that they call "blockade". Most of the people who parrot the word blockade do not even know what a real blockade is.

Rich that the Cuban Government thinks trading with the US is a human right. While at the same time, they could end the embargo by giving their people actual human rights, like free elections and freedom of speech and assembly and so on.

Here in Vegas I take a lot of Ubers and about 20% maybe 25% of Uber drivers are Cubans and when I ask them about things in their home country they tell me it’s dire. Absolutely nothing to buy nothing to do nothing to eat, No money, and nothing to spend it on even if they have money. People go to jail for misappropriating food. If they take a cow or chicken and eat it they face Long prison sentences. It sounds like an absolute nightmare.

The embargo (it not a blockage there are no ships surrounding cuba) doesn affect the constructions of hotels, during the pandemic they build more than 20 Hotels. Cuban people live under a dictatorship.

Plenty of countries are free to trade with Cuba . Trouble is, they have nothing to sell.

I wish Cuba would ditch the ideology and befriend the US. It would be the ultimate partnership for success.

The United States is not obligated to trade with anyone. Cuba is free to trade with any other nation in the world and they do.

The Cuban government should be ashamed of itself. Greed for power, greed over caring for the people.

They won't even have to use the phrase "last one who leaves turn off the lights" since they're already turned off.

Cuba is the only country in the world that has managed to stay afloat without an infrastructure and economist can't explain how they've managed for so long to do so. Now that fact is catching up and reality is staring everyone on the face. The "Glorious Cuban Revolution" would go down in history a the biggest national, political and economic fiasco of the 20th Century. Gracias Fidel!
