Having travelled to Cuba, one of my tasks was replacing electric wiring, wall switches, and outlets at a ministry center. Nothing had been upgraded since the mid 1950's - before the Castro regime. As a byproduct of the work, I checked the current at various times of the day. What didn't surprise me was the voltage varied from 100 volts to 118 volts and the power cycled from 59 Hz to a low of 50 Hz at a location in the general Havana region. A complete lack of power for 12-14 hours per day is one thing, but low voltage and unstable Hz is another. Anything with an electric motor is first to burn out - refrigerators, electric fans, air conditioners, power tools, etc. Unstable current also affects the life and performance of electronics like computers and televisions. An economy cannot be sustained with oxcarts, bicycles, candles, and kerosine stoves. For the regime, control of the masses requires control of the media that requires power to run TVs and radios. That is all collapsing for the general population, as well as the privileged elites: politicians, state security, and the military who require electronics to monitor and control the masses.

Left Cuba in 1997 escaping that dictatorship, love living in Canada and never went back. Throughout the years my family was able to escape as well. Thanks for the updates, keep up the good work!

We met a Cuban on vacation there about 20+ years ago, and we've kept in touch with him ever since. He and his mom are finally leaving Cuba (next week) to join his sister who left about a year ago. So many of his neighbours have already left. It's such a shame because he's so talented and smart, in any other country, he would have really made something of himself, but in Cuba, his talent was wasted.

Cuban here, currently living in La Habana, you pretty much nailed it, there are some nuances that are missing but over all great explanation

The economic hardship and shortages of basics is not the worst. The worst is the repression and violence of the dictatorial government against the poor Cubans.

I'm Cuban myself (65), I jumped out of a plane in 1988 while refueling in Gander, NFLD, Canada.
All I ever knew was Castro. At the time there were power outages and food and all sort of shortages. In all, the communism experiment has always been a disaster.
Great work as usual, Joe. Keep it up❤❤❤

The three pilars that Cuba was relying upon crumbled since the 2019 pandemia: tourism, remittances & export of medical staff. With no cheap crude supply anymore Cuba is in dire straits ever since.

Joe, your videos have been criticised by Russian bots on pro Russian you tube channels. Keep up the good work as you are clearly touching a nerve. 👍👍👍.

Cuba's problem is not a lack of money, it's a lack of freedom. No protection of personal property rights = eternal poverty. It's a self inflicted economic disaster by the insulated, criminal ruling class.

I'm amazed that Cuba has lasted this long. Canadian tourists have probably propped up the Dictatorship for too long now.

Joe's presentation is on point. NBC News 10/18/2024: "Power goes out on entire island of Cuba, leaving 10 million people without electricity".

I have just returned from Zimbabwe. With rampant corruption, 90% unemployment and a dysfunctional currency, Zimbabwe has a vibrant, informal, dollar based economy that successfully picks up the slack where the government has failed

My mother and brother went to Cuba a few years ago. Very nice people. But I saw these pictures they took of all these once. Beautiful buildings in Havana that are just slowly rotting. From what they told me, that's pretty much indicative of the entire country.

My friend in Cuba let me know only 3-4 hours of electrical power has been available recently 😭… even if they have funds —the prices are astronomical … Truly one of the saddest situations. I help my local community but reach out to the Cubans because I’d rather see them “survive” than attempt to migrate (which they are remaining in their country) … Milk is rationed and provided only to children up to 7 yrs old … medicine is scarce… they can’t butcher the beef for it is reserved for tourists … They stand in line for 4 PCs of bread DAILY —at the crack of Dawn and supply is limited . I can go on about the sad situation

-Thanks for the report on CUBA! Left the Island in 1962. Entering the USA as a legal political refugee, knowing the Communist system was bound to fail!! I’m now 81 years old retired, disabled. I’ve had a good life in exile!!! The Cuban economy, as you know, has been self destructing since 1959 when the Castro Communist mafia took over… it pains me to see what’s happened to my native country but I’m truly glad I left when I did. Again, Thank You so much!

I watched this with my wife, who's Cuban. What a wonderful presentation, and much factual research. Thank you for this up date.
Instead of relaxing government measures, they're still afraid to admit that socialism and archaic dictatorship is a failure. 😔🙏🏻
