John Williams is not just one of the best composers of our time, but among the best of all time. So much emotion in the music.

This man is a genius. So talented. Really one of the few remaining classical music composers. He is in my top 5, including James Horner, James Newton Howard, Hans Zimmer and of course... Ennio Moricone. Had the privilage of seeing Hans Zimmer and ENnio live, and saw the Irish National Concert Orchestra and Choir preform William's greatest work. Hearing this live made every hair on my neck stand up... Oh the memories of this movie. Wow!

The coordination involved in something like this is truly impressive -- and with such a magnificent score

Hands down his best work I've ever heard, although I prefer the full 15 minute version from the original E.T. Soundtrack.

The cue at 5:35 is so incredibly moving. Measure 227 for those following along in the score! The emotion is conveys is just absolutely nuts.

The original theme is 17 minutes. It is a real symphony. Amazing John Williams.

Very nice video and sound quality, thanks for the remaster and upload.

Perhaps a bit too much reverb though. I don't know what it is, maybe sibilance or something, because it's too bright in some places; just my humble opinion.

Obviously Mr. John Williams has written a lot of simply amazing film scores with some of the most iconic and recognizable themes ever composed, but to me this may indeed be his greatest work.

Of course it's hard to judge, with so many fantastic scores everyone will have their favorites, but FWIW, this is one of the few scores for which he won the Academy Award. I personally believe there is an unsurpassed beauty not just in the flying theme itself, but also in the intricacy of the moving parts and the complexity of the accompaniment.

The Star Wars theme is obviously fantastic and absolutely warrants consideration, along with so many others, too many to name individually, but I can think of no piece which so skillfully brings together all of the greatest elements of John Williams' music into one coherent whole better than this one.

The other works that come to my mind(as favorites) are:
Close Encounters of the Third Kind,
The Superman march and themes
Indiana Jones themes(I really like the Last Crusade's additions)
Jurassic Park themes(yes, plural, there are many)
Seven Years in Tibet,
Home Alone, and even
Harry Potter and Memoirs of a Geisha,
and I better throw in Jaws for good form and measure.

Oh, and not to be forgotten or overlooked: Hook, Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan, among many, many others, they are all fantastic.

However, though I love them all without reservation, from the viewpoint of pure musical artistry, technical and aesthetic achievement, I cannot think of any music by John Williams which exceeds his work done for E.T.

What do you think, what is your favorite score by John Williams, and why?

E.T. the best movie based on true events ever made!

Now we have visible contour enhancement, waxy surfaces with no detail, no texture and overcompressed sound. That's why many BluRay editions of movies are being released without digital noise reduction and no contour enhancment (sharpen).  Still I appreciate the effort, even if it made things worse. Please forgive me for being honest. I really appreciate the effort.
John Williams is pure genius. The very best film composer ever.
