John Williams & Wiener Philharmoniker – "Main Title" from "Star Wars: A New Hope"

The legendary American composer John Williams’ movie soundtracks have earned countless prestigious awards, including five Oscars, five Emmys, four Golden Globes and twenty-five Grammys. As he thanked the audience at Vienna’s Musikverein for their welcome, however, he told them that the invitation to work with the Wiener Philharmoniker was “one of the greatest honours of my life”. The live recording of this performance is available now. Also available in Dolby Atmos®.

My grandfather played violin in this original soundtrack. Sadly he passed away last night but it's good to know that his recordings still live on!

This is an example of why music education is so important in our schools and in our communities. I mean, John Williams started taking piano lessons when he was a kid, and also learned brass instruments. Along the way, he studied arranging and composing. He then began working as a pianist, arranger and composer. All through that time, he had teachers.

Then you take the musicians in the orchestra. They all started on their instruments with a teacher. When you hear people like this perform, you're listening to a combined hundreds of thousands of hours spent practicing. You're also listening to (probably) a combined hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on lessons and higher education. You're also looking at well over a million dollars' worth of instruments and instrument insurance.

My point is, that without music education, music teachers and the strive to become as good as you can be, concerts like this would not happen. It's this wondrous composer and these stunningly good musicians and their teachers who make it happen.

I can't believe Williams is 89 years old. Hope he will live as long as it's possible. One of the greatest composers of our time. God bless you, John!

0:37 mark that guys face, it’s like this is the culmination of his life’s work and he’s gonna absolutely kill his bit....incredible performance and John Williams is the goat composer of our generation with Hans and Ramin behind and ready to pick up his untouchable legacy....and if this video is here and I’m dead and gone in 50 or 60 years this is my record of being alive in the same time as this genius and u can use my comment as a guide as to how people of our day loved and cherished this man....a real living legend by every sense and definition
