Question when it says 2.9ghz base 4.8, ghz boost what will it actually run at long term playing a single threaded game? I don't understand how boost works regarding gaming

150 watts is pretty much the legal limit for external power supplies.
Correction, it is 330W and then you reach a different regulatory category.

I have 2 MSI laptop GT72. Im not going to buy MSI anymore, can´t upgrade them really. I prefer PC desktop now! Thanks for the review! Waiting for GTX1180 after the summer.

Replacing the thermal paste and thermal pads on both the cpu and gpu with custom high-performance paste & pads will easily sort out the high temperatures during normal use and gaming. I did the same with my GT73VR, and get around 70 on both the cpu and gpu during high work-loads. Comfortably quiet.

Bad temperatures for price and only one gtx 1080? I prefer to build a desktop. Just a 7-8700K and 2 of gtx 1080ti with a EKWB water cooler will cost lower for more than 2 times performance in gaming. So are gaming laptops worth to buy?

Could you do a video based on the Overclock and some results? Did you repaste the notebook? If not would you repaste the tim with something proper and then do the benchmarks? Would appreciate some numbers =D

@UFD Tech Nice review. I wish you could test some stuff for me but you would have to trust me to unlock the Bios. BTW you're really cute :) BTW there is a "single" 780W PSu avaialble but no one knows if the Embedded Controller will detect it or will think you only have one 230W PSU available and will "Super throttle" the CPU. P.S. If you want to talk, I'm the guy who created the mod for the GT73VR to allow a TDP modded GTX 1070 version to use 330W instead of 230W power via the EC (usually exceeding the power draw causes the CPU to be hard throttled).

The normal sized thinner i9 mobile laptops have max 1100 in cb r15 as we have seen is many tech sites.

If someone need multicore cpu performance is far better to buy a 1400$ Asus ROG 702zc ryzen 1700 based laptop with 1420 CB R15 that is almost 25% faster in rendering at the 1/3 of the price.

Even for mixed scenarios workstation & gaming the Amd 580 is on par in performance with a 1060 an for it's full HD lcd panel it pushes all games in higher settings with no problem.

Also the Asus is sized like a normal 17" laptop not like this super bulky msi laptop that is not a laptop size wise.

I would prefer to build an industrial portable computer than buying an msi super expensive laptop almost with the same size with desktop hardware parts in almost the same amount of money like with the s5 17" chassis from ssi portable.

I was expecting more from i9 mobile for paying the higher price as for workstation and gaiming scenarios.

If money and bulkiness is not an issue go for it or build a clevo chassis with that amount of money. If you want to pay a fraction of money and get faster multicore performance Asus 702zc is the only way to go.

It's a beast, but to me for $4500 the build quality is trash. I just can't stand the hard plastic on MSI laptops still. MSI is being using the same material for mad years now. Why can't they take example from Dell? They build quality on that Alienware is through the roof. Not to mention the trackpad, which is beyond trash on my GT73, shows permanent sign of use just after a while of use. If you're going to charge a premium price, then you must back it up with some quality look and feel.$4500, Just think about that for a sec, for your yourself.
