This video is misleading. Autofocus depends on the lens you are using. You are using a sigma lens and blaming on Nikon. I have the same Nikon camera and we make movie with this. There were no problems at all. There are also custom cinema profile for Nikon. If you do not have correct knowledge, you should not mislead people with this type of vide.

watching this in 2023.
My budget is super tight and the Nikon 5300 is the one that fits in my budget.

You can also load custom picture profiles to the cameras. Maybe the d5200 sucks but the only thing I dont like about nikon is the autofocus for video. Professional filmakers dont use auto focus. Do your research before you make videos, look at sample footage of other nikon models on YouTube. Videos of the d5300 and on are acutally quite good.

Agree with you on pretty much on everything. Bad sides are low light and autofocus. However while autofocus can't be fixed, low light 🔦 can be controlled by additional lighting.
I think as well that if you are all about video you should go for something else.

BUY A AF-P Lens You really need it Auto focus with AF-P much much better than your afs lens.. I hope this will fix your auto focus issue. I am also Nikon user. Check out some video Af-p lens review..

I am a Nikon fanboy and I agree with your video. I was a mainly photography guy and there were no better cameras for photos than the Nikons. But as I started to do videos damn Nikon sucks. I'm looking forward to buy a Canon for video just because of the dual pixel autofocus. But no camera at the moment comes close to Nikon photo quality and efficiency.

I’m a beginner and your videos really help me to relate on how to use my Nikon camera .

I love using my Nikon camera for video. The image quality is every bit as good as Canon or Sony. I simply do not use autofocus and I don't miss it either.

good video bro, the autofocus is bad but my nikon d5300 does film in 1080 60fps and I can use custom profiles

The jump from d5200 to the d5300 is actually good ngl

I love my d5500 for video. It'd be perfect if it had great auto focus. Gotta work with what you have right. Also the 5500 shoots 1080p60 and has a flat picture profile option for video. Good stuff

Para mi el autoenfoque no es tan fatal, para producciones rara vez lo usarás... Lo que si es lamentable es no contar con más controles manuales o automáticos como velocidad de obturación, iso o diafragma durante el video.

This might be a dumb question, but I have a Nikon D5300 and the autofocus isn't that great. If I use a cannon lens on the Nikon with the converter adapter to be able to use a canon lease, will the autofocus problem be resolved?

some will says: But serious filmmakers will use manual focusing and get better video. I agree with that, but what happen when you need to film a event with a lot of persons and you need to be in two places at time? i tried to setup two nikons, one to be getting video alone and other will be with me in manual mode the camera i used in manual with me get the job, but the one i leave in autofocus hooping to get a general look of the event, was terrible. So i concluded that: If you will work with only one camera at time, the nikon will work great if you use it in manual focus mode, with some pratice, of curse. But if you work alone and need two views of a job, and have only two nikons, youre kkkk canon and sony have better autofocus than nikon dslr. better leave one of this for work in autofocus mode while you get another camera in manual focus mode for better shoots.

Just buy a Canon if you want to shoot videos and take pictures (or a Sony/Panasonic, if you want a mirrorless... but consider their limited lens selection and higher prices on those). It has the best autofocus and some cheap original Canon prime lenses that are much wider than the ones offered by Nikon.

You have said it’s not a bad place to start. Indeed, but at the same price with Canon you’re getting much more if we’re talking about video performance. Plus, you’re likely to continue buying lenses for Nikon and switching later on would be hard and not economical.
