One of my favorite actors died yesterday.

Val Kilmer was a quintessential actor of the highest form. He began on the stage and transitioned to the big screen to become a Hollywood Icon.

He brought the swagger as the Ice Man in the first "Top Gun" film.

He brought Jim Morrison back from the dead when he played him in "The Doors."

He told us, "I'm your Huckleberry!" and gave one hundred other quotables as Doc Holliday.

He played a dozen different characters in one film in "The Saint."

He helped create the voice of "Batman."

He was the Crimnal that got away in "Heat."

And he entertained us in countless other roles.

But his most iconic role was his last in Top Gun 2, when most thought his career was long over. He brought us back to where it all started, but this time as an aging, dying Iceman. Despite not be able to speak, Val helped break box office records and saved Hollywood from collapse after Covid-19 by doing something never done in a film. Because he couldn't speak, his character communicated his lines through typing, and Val lip synced an AI generated voice of himself that was created by compiling his voice from all of his other films. The sincerity in his face and the acting that came through his eyes without saying a word was the crowning achievement of his career. God bless Tom Cruise and Jerry Bruckheimer for letting Val do it.

He stayed true to his craft to the end and kept his political and personal views to himself. He was America's movie star! Val, you will TRULY be missed!
