This is refreshingly brilliant and fascinating. While I'm no scientist it still keeps me absolutely enthralled to discuss and learn about the universe around me. There are no words to describe how overjoyed I am to have found this channel.

I always answer the question "which came first, the chicken or the egg?" with this answer:
"The egg came first because you failed to specify what animal or species the egg came from."

An answer like that is always the correct answer until they specify what laid the egg.

The reason they had money to study Stars is so sad... lol.

as the gas moved to the center, it became dense and rotate much quicker in the center than the edges, in fact the center was spinning like crazy and as you move away the rotation drop off quickly. The only reason I can explain why all the gas never got pulled into the black hole is if gravitational waves stirred up the entire gas cloud as a whole, thus speeding up the rotation of the outer edges, keeping it all in orbit. They say the outer sprial arms of a galaxy move faster than calculated

chicken or thy egg? it is obviously the Egg... no matter how you look at it...
The egg could be a mixed breed from two other species... thus the chicken is a mix or possibly a mutated/evolved version from the parent.

I love his explanation of Dark Matter. He could have said absolutely anything, and it would have carried the same weight or meaning.

"If I held dark matter in my hand, it would fold itself into a duck and begin flying at an angle of 72 degrees at the speed of sound, continuing until reaching the nearest habitable island shaped like a fortune cookie. It would then eat a local mammal, fly into a rainbow, explode, and reform in my hand. Thats Dark Matter"

for this question I think the dark hole came first for the mass to collect first to allow the velocity of the stars that orbit it.

I wasn't talking about success, I was talking about acquisition of facts from videos like these

@Hodgestic That's very interesting, I had never thought about black holes being born without supernovae and simply coming into existence due to large amounts of density collapsing. I'm only an amateur astronomer so I appreciate the insight into other explanations about black holes. May I ask where I could easily find this information? I'd like to learn more.

I had the understanding that the first stars were extremely massive, these massive stars died and thus a black hole was born. What was left out of that explosion, which was the matter that the star once manufactured at it's core, is now being sucked into the black hole thus creating a spiral galaxy. If incorrect, I would appreciate an alternative explanation.

Same here! I cannot stop watching because he is amazing!

Michio Kaku has the most awesome ways of answering a question with a big 'I don't fucking know'

Agreed. The reason most people do not achieve the level of understanding and immersion of people like Dr. Kaku probably has a lot to do with the fact that they only desire knowledge in order to be 'right, ' in order for them to bludgeon others over the head with it. Scientists understand that the motivation is discovering how little we know, not how much.

Maybe a black hole does not form because a star shrinks due to its gravity, but the core of star rotates near the speed of light. In this case still the mass of the star plays an important role, the more massive the star the greater the speed of rotation.
At the beginning all stars might have been enough massive to become black hole sand there was little distance among them. Black holes started to merge with each other until the supermassive ones were created.

the point is not about feeling like geniuses, but about knowing for the sake of it, because knowing things for the way they really are, it's an honest approach to yourself, so that you don't bullshit yourself with lies

I actually laughed out loud when he, the distinguished and really smart scientist said "clumpyness"

@mortenrobinson that wasn't the question. The question was 'How can gravity exist before the formation of the galaxy?'. Clearly this question shows a lack of understanding about gravity (which isn't a problem because that's how learning starts). So Newtonian answer is the correct one.
It's like explaining Special relativity before Newtonian mechanics

If you really wanna go that far back, and be down right specific. The single cell organism came first, then evolved and made 2 dinosaurs who then mated and made the first egg which would later evolve into a chicken. (skipping around through a lot of other species obviously) so the egg came first which hatched the very first chicken.

I am a big, big, big fan so I want to ask; If our galaxy exists in a membrane that surrounds the event horizon of a black hole, does that mean that the black hole may came first?

@zacharyeast1 Yes, there is fission for a trigger which sets off the fusion of hydrogen which is the main element of the explosion. Your original comment was "Hydrogen bombs are plutonium fission (atom splitting), stars are hydrogen fusion." which is wrong as hydrogen bombs do use fusion, it's where the energy comes from. The difference lies in the triggers, the "trigger" for a star is the high pressure, the trigger for the bomb is the fission.
