Howdy, folks; in this video, Bob, the property owner, explains how he built this garden wall, and Jason and I show how we apply a finish coat to it.

Other Acrylic videos may interest you. Enjoy

Thank you all for watching, and wishing all a great day!

Hi apache dude, no doubt about it that garden wall Bob built was allot of work especially as he went in radiuses. Most folks find it hard enough to build a straight wall. The caps were subbed out to a specialist. I had the easy job of simply applying the acrylic finish.
Thanks for watching and have a great day!

Howdy hmanontario, sometime these retaining walls have the membrane on the rear I doubt this one did though. As far as prep work this garden wall was just pored 6 months ago, all we had to do was pressure wash some dirt off.
Thanks for watching and have a great day!

Good Morning Kieran, I'm in the US. I buy my materials in bulk, for example I might buy 6 bags of premium Portland stucco and a yard of sand to mix it with. Then we use our own Essex or Whiteman mortar mixer.
(I have two plaster mixers)
We then pull the mixer with our 450 diesel truck to mix on the job.
Thanks for watching and have a great day in the UK.

Hey Kirk, cool project. Do you guys have to do anything different when prepping a formed wall to get any release agents off the surface to insure a god bond. And when we do retaining walls or even planter boxes up here in Canada, we brush or spread on a tar on the backside to keep any moisture out of the wall.

Since it's an acrylic finish did you not need to do a scratch coat or a bonding agent first? I ask because I have a 2 ft high concrete retaining wall that is also serving as a garden wall that was just poured and I'll be applying an acrylic color stucco. I'm just researching to see how to prep the wall before applying the color stucco since it's a brand new wall like in this video.

I know this is an old video but I have a wall that curves like that. I went over the various layers of cement stucco already on it with a product called K-Rend. It's a common product type in the UK and Europe. Basically it's an acrylic coloured render that's put on around 8mm (3/8") thick and the next day before it's gone too hard you use a float that has loads of points on it and scratch the hell out of the render.

The end result is a great finish, the really good thing is that you can be really bad at rendering and just clean it up afterwards, it's like sanding it flat.

Of all the videos I have seen you seem not have used that finish. Is it not available in the states?

logik.
