When listening, I couldn’t help but see the similarity between Toland and the “seeker sensitive” movement within the modern American church, which seems to suggest that we do best in presenting the Gospel by crafting our presentation to the limitations and prejudices of our listeners rather than relying upon the efficacy of Scripture and Spirit to do their work. This comes from a 20-year participant in Willow Creek who grieves over how deluded we and I were and how arrogant we and I still are in relationship with the Sovereign and Lord Jesus Christ. Thanks be to God that He reigns and hasn’t abandoned those of us who have been so errant.

If God is Sovereign then this is all the Truman Show. If God is not Sovereign then He is not God. As solid as reformed theology is it cannot get around this.
