Indeed! Known as Enlightenment in England, Aufklärung in Germany, Lumieres in France. It was rooted in the idea that with the natural light, in other words, human reason, in opposition to supranatural light, faith, belief, man can penetrate the realty and perceive and conceive it as it is.
That enlightenment hasn't enough enlightened to prevent the shaping of a dynastic bloody tyranny that terrorizes, slaughters, persecutes, ruins, hinders the earthly destiny of millions. The wickedness, greed and madness are very stick to be affected by the light.
