Iodine is a mineral that is needed in the diet to ensure that the thyroid works properly.

Thyroid hormones play an important role in a wide range of bodily functions, including metabolism, bone health, immune response, and development of the central nervous system (CNS).

Iodine helps convert thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) to triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). This conversion is important for the thyroid to function properly.

Selenium. Selenium, a mineral needed for thyroid hormone production, helps protect the thyroid from damage caused by oxidative stress. The thyroid contains high amounts of selenium, and a deficiency can lead to thyroid dysfunction

Zinc Deficiency Associated with Hypothyroidism: An Overlooked Cause of Severe Alopecia

Hypothyroidism is a common and well recognized cause of diffuse hair loss. Zinc and other trace elements such as copper and selenium are required for the synthesis of thyroid hormones, and deficiency of these can result in hypothyroidism. Conversely, thyroid hormones are essential for the absorption of zinc, and hence hypothyroidism can result in acquired zinc deficiency. The hair loss attributed to hypothyroidism may not improve with thyroxine unless zinc supplements are added, as demonstrated in our case.

Vitamin D and antioxidants are also good for your thyroid. Berries, specifically strawberries, blackberries, goji berries and cranberries, contain a large amount of these. As you can see, there are a wide variety of foods that are helpful for your thyroid.

I have hashimoto's and hypothyroidism. After watching this video I am going to break my OMAD fast with some chia pudding made with coconut milk & monk fruit and have raspberries, chopped Brazil nuts and roasted pumpkin seeds on top. Yum. Thanks Dr. Mindy :)

I moved con. of T3 from 1, 5 to 2, 5 in lab analyses. I have now more eye brow hair. I included in diet sea weed, brasil nuts, I wil add this complexs carbs and beries. I have good recipe: avocado + pammkin seads + lemon juice + Himalayan solt. I kept off rice. I was missing rice.

hi Dr. Mindy, I love your Youtube channel and your podcast. I was diagnosed with Grave's Disease in January of 2009 (after 13 years of looking for answers). Since then I rode the rollercoaster of meds and food issues and survived cancer.. always something. I am also post-menopausal. Since I am autoimmune, my thyroid can swing from hyper to hypo just based on my food choices, and this I have learned to manage. With my doctor's blessing, I do IF, 16:8 but I don't do a very keto diet since my doctor specifically told me not to based on my specific case, bloodwork etc. Your channel gives me alot of encouragement, keep up the great work, we need you!

I’ve been diagnosed with hypothyroidism since 2002 and has been on meds since then. I also have pcos and insulin resistance. I have struggled with weight gain, lethargy, mental fog and more symptoms since my puberty. My t3/t4 levels are so far normal but I’m still taking meds. Only with IF I’m able to lose some extra weight I’ve been struggling for years and my triglycerides, cholesterol and HDL have been under control recently. IF really works! I’ve not done more than 15-17 hrs of fasting though.

Dry fasted again for over 24 hours, no particular reason, worked out for 3/4 of an hour dry. I always eat keto refeeds, walked a bit today, broke dry, havent eaten yet, 4:53 PM, no appetite yet. Thx Dr Mindy!

Just to let you know I am a male and you can count me in on your list of fasting. I do alot of mid section exercises not to burn fat from my mid section, but I do them when ever I get hungry. The hunger pains stop immediately and the midsection tightnes last a long to remind what I am fasting. I'm 6' 1" weighing at 180 My blood pressure at last doctor vist a couple of weeks ago was 110/84. I'm not over weight and I don't have diabetes. I find fasting to be satisfying giving me extreme energy and clear mind. Keep moving forward doctor!

Hello! Thank You! I consume organic raised pumpkin seed (from my mothers garden) but I dot peel seed, I grind them and make pumpkin seed flour . My I make morning porridge with falx seed, pumpkin flour and oat bran, sometimes other seeds like sunflower seeds and sesame seeds and frozen berries.

I do actually eat organic seaweed in small quantities, but we do have iodized salt, which does the same thing!

In place of Fiber, instead of rice we can add Millets too which are whole grain, high fiber and lot of rich minerals

5:13 I have always read that you only want a maximum of 2 Brazilian nuts per day for selenium. Otherwise you get too much selenium which can be bad. You might want to do additional research on Brazilian nuts.
