Currently listening to a few of these owls having a midnight chat outside my house, over the din of the Spring peepers. Their calls are echoing through the valley. This is what keeps me in the countryside.

I heard a repetitive shriek tonight and walked around outside until I found it coming from a telephone pole at the end of the street. Sure enough--it was a great horned owl at the very top. What a treat!!!

I'd hear this call at 3:00 am in the dead of winter in the Connecticut countryside. One would call and then in the far distance you'd hear an answer. Magical.
